Re: autism

My mother (Born 1950s) was very probably undiagnosed. She failed form 2/year 8 twice and dropped out of school. Yet the system didn't put 2 and 2 together in the 60s

Wow, that is interesting @Bunniekins . A very big increase in diagnosis.

I agree @DogMan79 that many people were/are undiagnosed. There was not good awareness or acceptance of it in the past.

I wonder how much is awareness and acceptance of it (to be tested for diagnosis) now days, as compared also to whether more mild cases are now being diagnosed too?

I know a lot of adults who have been diagnosed as adults - often because a child has had a diagnosis and thus picked up the parental similarities, but also some that are picked up as adults by a psychologist and decide to seek formal testing diagnosis.

Autism has been around and the statistics would be higher if more awareness was around then. Girls mask their symptoms leading to later in life diagnosis. (Same with ADHD, more women in their 40s are finally getting their diagnosis)

I agree that there is more cases now, but I feel it's more understanding, and how its approached.
