Self talk around eating/weight

Self talk around eating/weight

I've had issues around eating/weight in the past but it's always been related to my physical health conditions.

But lately (2-3 months or so) something has changed, I think triggered by a quick weight loss after an infection.

Content/trigger warning

I've become preoccupied with my weight, weighing myself multiple times a day and even documenting it.

I've started actively restricting what I eat [edited by moderator].

It's not to do with how I look, it's all about the numbers, likely to do with my OCD.

But what's concerning me most is the self-talk and self-hate/guilt, that's completely new. Every time I eat my mind tells me "fat bi**h" "you're a pig" "stupid" "how dare you" etc, same with if the number on the scale goes up even 0.1kg.

This is all new for me, I know it's a problem. I just don't know how to stop it, I know I need to address it especially while it's early and still a new thing.

  • I just don't know what to do. I've tried telling my psychologist, my dietitian, and my case manager.. but I can't. I'm ashamed of it. I have many other MH problems, it's almost embarrassing that I might be facing another one.

Hi @greatescape and welcome to the forums

I'm glad that you've felt able to reach out here and talk about this, as I hear it's a really hard topic to discuss for you. Perhaps sharing here will be a step towards being able to talk to your support team about it. Or maybe you could even show them this post if you can't find the words.

Is it good that you're wanting to address this early, but it's not something you need to work out alone. We're here for you, and I'm sure that your care team would appreciate being able to support in this too.

I have just had to make some slight edits to your post, I've flicked through an email to go through the specifics if you want to take a look.

Thanks again for sharing here, I do hope that the forums can be a safe space for you.
