Help Seeking

Help Seeking

A personal experience today reminded me how brave we are to seek help and be honest with ourselves and others about what we are experiencing. I must say that it does feel really good to know that the first step might be hardes and that I'm taking control of my life, my thoughts and feelings.

Happy Monday everyone and hope you all had a nice weekend.

Re: Help Seeking

I agree and this year I took that brave step too, and the hardest part was showing up but I am so glad I did

Agree. As Woody Allen said '80% of life is just showing up'.

Just gotta be brave mate

I put it off for a very long time!! And you know all I had to do was show up, I was scared and worried I even had my kids in tow and I will never forget how welcoming they made us all feel and helped me from the second I showed up

How was your experience? Feel supported?

Re: Help Seeking

Yes indeed, half the battle is just showing up. I did this about three years ago and went to see a psychologist and surprisingly we connected really well even in the first 15 minutes. This is very uncharacteristic for me. However, she was overbooked and probably overworked and changed to the payment method. Suddenly, I couldn’t afford her any more. I went back to my general practitioner today to get a new referral. But now I have to find a new psychologist. This means going through the on boarding process all over again. So choosing the right one is the key

Re: Help Seeking

Thanks for asking. It was a new GP, mine at the AMS was booked out for a decent wait so went elsewhere. The experience was not the best, it was hard to understand due to language barriers, i was persuasive and got some help, although also have to wait similar to @AvacadoRising_  so now im thinking a digital option would be very appropriate for me at this time. It does take a health system to help people I say, not just a single health provider.

Im glad a have a good family and have sport to look forward to, yep that's right i signed back up on the weekend and played footy.

Re: Help Seeking

Thats great! So does mine brother. Its something that has always kept me well and strong. Connecting with mates and having a positive outlet. Its important to stay connected to the people you love, your mates, sports networks and work colleagues - its easy to get caught up in your grief and isolate yourself.
