Icebreakers time!

Icebreakers time!

Welcome forumites!!

If you’ve attended groups (through either Guided Recovery or RecoveryClub), then you’ll be familiar with all the fun lil icebreakers that the amazing facilitators come up with! 🧊

With our forums community growing each day, we thought it’d be a nice way to get to know each other and connect here too!

The mods will take turns posting a new icebreaker question each week!!

The first icebreaker question is... *insert drumroll*

Which frog do you relate to most at the moment and why? 🐸
*or if there's another frog that's not in the image, feel free to share or describe it!

Re: Icebreakers time!

what colour are you going @PeppyPatti? Are you able to maybe get a photo and block out your beautiful face (for security and anonymity)?

Thanks for being a friend, I need one right now xo

Re: Icebreakers time!

Hi @rav3n

My first tattoo was of a butterfly - but rising from a stormy ocean into the sunshine. Butterflies make me think of rebirth into a new chapter. Their life cycle, though short, makes me feel like change can be celebrated and new starts are possible.

I really should read more into mythology though - I used to be that child who was always lost in a book (escapism), but I have struggled to find that passion in my healthy adult mode. I love the idea of dragons and Phoenix rising but I need to know more to see if they fit better.

As a traumatised mum - my spirit animal was a bear. Calm on the surface until I felt me or mine were threatened.

So I think the butterfly still resonates the most - i must be in the cocoon stage atm though. (Sloth stage?)

Dearest @ENKELI I just got a naughty person message from @AuntGlow for posting a photo of my niece with her haircut but pretending it was a magazine photo ……

it’s mahogany with very thin streaks of white.

the goal is to create a tiny gap between the trigger (being yelled at

• The S.T.O.P. Method: This is a simple mindfulness technique:

• Stop: Freeze exactly where you are.

• Take a breath: Deep, slow inhale and exhale.

• Observe: Notice what is happening in your body. (Example: "My chest is tight," "I feel heat in my face," "I want to run away.")

• Proceed: Choose your action consciously, instead of reacting automatically.

• Name It: Silently say, "This is anger," "This is fear," or "This is overwhelm." Naming the emotion helps you create distance from it, weakening its hold.

also I listen to mindfulness cds. I listen to an audible by Dr Joe Dispenza

or my favourite

Jon Kabat Zinn

whever you go there you will be

Re: Icebreakers time!

@SweetMonster love what you've shared! i really like the idea of rebirth, and if i'm honest i don't know too much about Phoenixes even though their my fav. i just remember watching Harry Potter movies and thinking, oh that's so cool that it was reborn from its ashes! i think i like that it can be reborn an infinite number of times. i go through a lot of 'phases' and each new 'reborn' version of me feels closer to the person i want to be.

but after reading about what butterflies mean to you, i think i've gotten a new appreciation for them. i think their short life span adds more meaning; to not take our time for granted and make the most of it. i've always associated bear with nurturing and protective energy.

the cocoon stage sounds challenging, but it also sounds exciting, knowing that your transformed self is on the way 🦋
