Hello fellow Peer Guides, my name is Oaktree. I am looking forward to working with you to hopefully get the Veterans Forum a bit more active.

Does anyone have any ideas that will engage the members?

Re: Engaging Members

Hey @Oaktree, thanks for reaching out to ask these great questions about the Veterans space!

I read your posts in the Veterans space and it's amzing that you have been so active there. It can use all the new Members it can get and it's good to see new faces posting interesting threads for Members to post in and connect with the community.

Your posts are amazing because you bring your lived experience from your serivce and civilian life into the space. Tagging other Members is a great way to let them know that there is something that another Member thinks they might be interested in or has replied to them. I like your most recent post about all the different services and that you added links as it can look more informative and direct Members to information.

My father was in the Navy and I only have lived experience of being a family member of a civilian because dad had long since left the Navy when I came along. He did still work for the ADF at various bases around the place and we spent time at them as a familiy visiting him and using the facilities for families.

Dad only ever spoke about the Navy in a positive light and he was proud of his serivce and the opportunites he had as a civilian because of this skills and knowledge from the Navy. Therefore I find it challeging to respond to some Members who and talking negatively about the ADF as this was not my families experience with my dad. I look to change the tone when appropriate, validate Members experiences and let them know they have been heard.

I think what @tyme@rav3n@AuntGlow  and @0ddsidian have said the Verterns spaces are only new spaces and it can take time to build momentum and slow at getting Members to respond with a post or react even. I beleive if we all keep working towards the same outcome for building safe and suportive space for Veterans and their families people will join the Forums to be part of it and the spaces will become more active over time.

Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more of your amazing posts throughout the Forums!

Take care

Re: Engaging Members

Your very presence and tagging people is so helpful to keep the forums connected. It doesn't seem like a 'big' thing, but it is @Shaz51 . You seem to be able to revive those threads that have been lost for a while which is great. And as I said before, the live chats are the best!

@Shaz51 I dunno if it's doable but a Q&A sesh type thread? Somewhere where someone can ask a question - perhaps something related to wanting to better understand their loved one who has lived experience of mental health challenges - where someone with similar challenges can respond with some thoughts/insight/etc?

Or similar to ChasingSunset's highlights thread, something specific for carers/family/friends where they can celebrate little wins or progress or learnings?

Just thoughts off top of my head, not sure how helpful they are 😅
