Loneliness

Loneliness

Hey I’m new to this site and am open to any kind of conversation. I deal with loneliness pretty bad since I’ve moved to Australia and would like to have someone to talk to. If anyone else is in a similar situation as me please feel free to give me a message!

Re: Loneliness

Hi, im sorry you're experiencing lonliness.. it's the worst. I live alone and struggle with being isolated and loneliness a lot myself, and have done on and off for the last 15 years.

You mentioned you moved to Australia. Where did you move from? Where in Australia did you move to?

Cheers 🙂

Re: Loneliness

@CelticTiger I understand how it feels. me being migrant, I struggled with loneliness , i still feel it on and off.

Couple of things which helped me-

i used meetup app, there are events organised every day(some free , some with nominal organisers fee), I joined events which are of my interest. That way I got to meet new people.

I Picked up a new hobby . it’s most easiest way to meet people who have similar hobbies.

Hey @CelticTiger

Loneliness is really challenging. I found that volunteering (if you have free time) can help. It feels good to help other people and you get to meet likeminded people. Are you able to communicate with the people from your home country? If you like games a virtual game night could be a way to reconnect.

Re: Loneliness

@CelticTiger Hello it’s really good to meet you. I’m really glad you’ve posted on the forums. Loneliness is something so many people experience and in particular migrants.

It is sometimes quite hard too to put yourself out there and to find groups or activities that help us meet people we might have a connection to and become friends. When I came to Australia I was a child so for me I could make friends with other kids at school. Not so easy for adults.

There are often free activities at like local libraries thwt being people together. Or if you have hobbies or sports etc you enjoy a local club might be somewhere you can meet other people.

These forums are a way to make some online friends too. People can chat here about all sorts of things and I have found it can provide good company when I feel alone.

What type of things do you enjoy?

Re: Loneliness

Thank you it is the worst. I’ve struggled with it for quite a while but the last two years in Australia has been very difficult. I moved from Ireland and first landed in Brisbane then after about a year and a half I moved to WA to a regional town [removed by moderator].

It’s nice to hear someone else talk about loneliness, I’m sorry you’ve had this obstacle in your life but I really do appreciate you replying to me 🙏

Tell me about yourself! Where are you from? Where do you live? Do you think you’ll ever move or have destinations you’d like to visit?

Re: Loneliness

Thank you, it’s nice to know it’s a shared experience with people in a foreign land to them.

thanks again for the suggestions I’ll keep it in mind. I’ve been thinking about joining a sport like hockey or boxing so I can meet up with others and connect. Just need to make that first step!

Re: Loneliness

It’s really good to meet you as well, thank you for your message it’s really lifted my mood!

It is difficult being an adult and getting yourself out there. I lived in Australia for 2 years as a child and had no problem making friends like a child would do but after coming back as an adult, I realised it wasn’t going to as easy.

I’ve been thinking about getting into boxing in particular when it comes to activities, there’s a few clubs in the town I live in.

these forums are handy but I would like to set up an account on my Xbox and do some online gaming, I used to do that a lot and met quite a few people who I would play with regularly but it’s been a few years. I’d like to start up again as I do enjoy being on the Xbox.

where in Australia did you end up as a child? Are you still there?

Re: Loneliness

Hi @CelticTiger welcome to the forums 😊

Just letting you know I have edited your post to remove the name of the town you live in. This is in line with our Anonymity Guideline, which asks members not to reveal potentially identifying info - allowing us all to express ourselves more freely without worrying about real world consequences.

Also hot lil tip - if you'd like to notify other members you've responded, you can tag them using the @ symbol and choosing or typing their name so it shows up in blue - like this: @Cuddlebear @Lapis_Anteater

More How-to's here! Let us know if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing you round and getting to know you!

Re: Loneliness

Hi @willmckenzie - just letting you know there's no 'private messaging' function on the forums - both a safety and anonymity issue! Some members have their own threads, some just share in social spaces, and if you want to chat to a particular member you can tag them 😋

Let us know if you have any questions!
