Something’s not right

My daughter

My daughter

Hi my daughter has had a rough life jouney from day one.

Content/trigger warning
Her mother unfortunatley had mental health issues and was quite abusive towards her and ended up taking her life when my daughter was 6 years olkd. My daughter has also attempted suicide as well at the early teens stage.

She is now 22 but still struggling with mental health issues and is a bit of a loss as to what she can do. We have done the theraphy route with no real result and she is trying to figure out what she can do to get her life on track. Any suggestions very much welcome.

Re: My daughter

hey @domken welcome to the forums.

i'm really sorry to hear about your wife and daughter. i can hear that your daughter has gone through a lot, and it sounds like you're working hard to look out for her too. i know you mentioned that she's tried therapy - was this therapy with a psychologist or a different type of professional? i ask because psychologists can offer other types of treatment outside of talk therapy depending on your daughter's needs (such as ECT, EMDR, CBT, etc)

i'm sure other members will also hop in to share soon too. we're here for you.

(p.s. i've edited your post to add content warnings to help keep our vulnerable members safe, if you have any questions around it - feel free to reach out!)

Re: My daughter

Thank you for that and yes she has seen proffessionals and we just did not get anywhere with it. I have enrolled her into a gym to keep her self esteem up and am looking into career options for her. I think she needs some sort of work pattern/carreer direction but she is difficult to place as she wants to work in fashion or photography both of which are pretty limited in offers.

Re: My daughter

staying active can be great! i found gym quite useful in releasing my anger and anxieties. @domken so it sounds like you're looking for ways to get your daughter involved in social spaces and productive work? have you had a look at Work and study support at headspace? they offer free support to people aged 15-25.

fashion and photography are really great industries to jump into, but i also hear how they can be difficult to enter without certain connections. i wonder if Online Career Mentoring Service could help her connect to someone within that industry?

Re: My daughter

Hi thought I should an update on my daughter. I have booked her in at a local gym so she can start doing some training to get the endorphins happening and I have also booked her in with a GP to get a referral for 10 sessions with you. So once we have the referral what is the process to booking in for some counselling sessions.

cheers dom
