Glad Mr @Shaz51 's scan appointment went well today.
My day was good/productive. Did more cooking. Made a pumpkin stew, potato bake, and some beef.
@Chasingsunsetsyep. The app works wonders for ensuring they have it before I go. I really wish I could get frappe with the points too 😪. But instead I use my points for free mcFlurries lol. But now you can only get their standard mcflurries with points, not their limited time ones.
As for cochlear implant experiences, they can really vary. Its not a guaranteed successful implantation in terms of how well you will recieve/process the signal. I dont understand much of that technical side, other than there are "succesful", "partially successful", and "unsucessful" (weak) outcomes. But having said that, I had a friend who had an "unsucessful" implant (was said that she'd be able to hear sounds but not great clarity, eg not able to use phones etc). However she put in a lot of work with auditory-training and was able to understand speech and use a phone with it (she had to do this blindfolded because she is a great lip reader too 🤣) - having had hearing aids also made the process of learning to interpret the sounds easier too I understand.
Interestingly I have one friend who got implants as an adult because they can improve/reduce tinnitus. He didnt care about actually hearing things, but wanted the tinnitus gone.
But I have another friend who got implants as a very young child, but once finishing university decided to stop using them because they got headaches and tinnitus from the focusing on hearing and processing things!
So that seems to go either way? But i think I've heard more deaf say theyve reduce tinnitus than caused it.
Of course having cochlear implants (or hearing aids) is great for a good night sleep. Snoring partners and flushing toilets or noisy neighbours do not bother them at all. 😅 but if you're getting cochlear, your residual natural hearing is probably low enough that you wouldn't hear those things whilst asleep anyway lol.
If you have any specific questions, im happy to reach out and ask my friends 😊. But keeping in mind all my cochlear-friends have also learned sign language at some time during their journey -- there are sooo many more cochlear users who never learn sign language and just rely on their cochlear implant 😊.
I think i heard that some implants now can even be safe for MRI. That's pretty cool I think!
