Oh wow, @Blackcloud you're doing the UG Cert fine arts *and* an UG Psych bachelor at the same time?? That is a big workload! And from what I hear generally Psych is not an "easy" course - lots of content is what I hear -- is that your experience too?
I've never thought about how one becomes/qualifies specifically for Art therapy (as opposed to other types of therapy). That's a really interesting thought! And a fine arts qual makes a lot of sense in that. But I reckon there would be other pathways into it too, not necessarily requiring one to be an artist/creative themselves. And/or of course the ability to pick it up again after completing the psych studies for the therapist portion. 🙂
Ive always wondered what art therapy is like. Ive never had any. But I do like creating things and used to like drawing - and sometimes used this to express how I felt. But I dont think I could do it within the time frame of a 1 hour appointment??
I wonder if some lecturers or other contacts you meet through the Psych degree might have some ideas/insights in terms of specialising into art therapy. 🤔 I found a few of my uni lecturers quite approachable to ask real-world and career questions from 🙂 and I did mine 100% remote so I did not meet them in person at all.
I was quite surprised in my degree what topics I found really interesting and enjoyable which I did not expect! I did not expect to enjoy Eco-Tourism, Events Management, HR or Economics subjects - but I did! It actually put me onto the path of being an Analyst (Events Mgt and Economics) and my passion for team-management/leadership (HR), as well as my better understanding of how to select which tourism companies to use when I travel (for sustainable community-benefits, not just environmental). 🤩
