I am my husband 's second wife and married for 18 years and we have not been separated only when he has stayed in hospital for weeks at a time

I have 4 step children who are adults now

Aww @Shaz51 so rough. Like 'waiting for the other shoe to drop'. Definitely helps me to try to have something to look forward to - even if it's just treating myself to a nature walk or baked good at the end of a trying day.

Approaching 26 years and never separated.

Other than extended hospital stays.

That was a combination of respite for me but at worst safety intervention for my wife.

It has not been easy. I have been determined for the sake of our children to keep the family together. That is not for everyone and I am well aware that is not viable or safe for many families.

We have come close to calling it but I am grateful we are still together despite the trauma.
