Advocates, Work Cover, Work Safe Act, Anti-Discrimination Act, Psychosocial Hazards

I work for a healthcare provider, and they have failed to make reasonable adjustments or manage a psychosocial risk causing me to be in a state of chronic sensory overload. As a result I have had incidents at work.

I can't come to work, but employer won't make even the tiniest of changes that wouldn't cost a thing, even though I have reported it's effect on me constantly. Even though I told them that was the cause.

Work Cover has denied my claim, for many reasons, one including a GP that made a mistake and a psychiatrist that I have been seeing throughout the years being very timid and not willing to get involved with work related matters.

Anyone know how to find a good psychiatrist or GP that knows how work cover works and knows who to correctly make claims with a psychological component.

Hi @1233 welcome to the forums

I'm sorry to hear that your workplace has been so unwilling to make adjustments to make your workplace safer for you. On top of that I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have had your claim denied because of a mistake by your gp and your psychiatrist being unwilling to become involved.

I would suggest that if you are looking for a new GP and psychiatrist to ask them up front if they are able to do work cover claims before making an appointment. Both this Australian psychiatrist directory tool, and Health Direct service finder can be helpful tools in finding practitioners in your area.

Aside from this continue reporting and documenting everything in writing - I know others have suggested emails being an effective way to do this as they automatically have date and time - anything to help support your claim.

All the best, I hope that you're able to find some practitioners who are more experienced in these claims and that it makes the difference in getting your claim accepted

Hi there @1233 ,

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences. I can absolutely hear how hard things are for you in that you have been harmed by your employer not having provided you reasonable adjustments.

I don't know enough about work cover, but if the issue of not providing accomodations to support your work which has in turn caused psychological stress, can you contact the Work Safe/Safe Work in the state you live in?

It sounds like there is a lot of issues around this, and unfortunately, we can't really provide advice for specific situations.

I really hope things improve for you and you get the support you need at this time.
