Something’s not right

I am not doing so well

I am not doing so well

I am really not doing so well & I am struggling. I can't seem to function too well atm. I am shutting down. I saw my psych today, and she doesn't think doing exercise science is going to be good choice to study because there is not much work available in this field.

I am not able to articulate too well, what is happening for me. I am just exhasuted and scared and alone.

Re: I am not doing so well

Hi again @oceangirl, I can hear how exhausted, scared and alone you sound right now. I actually have quite similar feelings...although now that I know you are feeling those feelings too, I don't feel quite so alone . Trying to decide what to study can be scary. I am in the rather challenging situation of having spent twelve years completing a four-year degree and now facing the prospect of being totally unemployable in that field. It took me so long due to my mental health issues - I did one subject a semester and deferred numerous times. Whenever I tried to talk to anyone about what I was going to actually DO with my degree, I always got told things like "you are being negative and worrying about the future, just focus on this assignment/exam" or "one step at a time" or "your degree will be useful in whatever you do." I was constantly told that "it will be worth it in the end." Well I can tell you from experience, that it wasn't!!! I seem to have spent twelve years on a useless piece of paper that is sitting in the bottom draw of my desk and I have no idea what I'm going to do employment-wise. So while I can hear how scary it is for your psychologist to raise the issue of your employment prospects post-study, I'm wondering if this is something you can investigate further yourself (though not tonight when you are feeling so yuck!)? I am definitely not in any way discouraging you from doing your course if it is going to take you where you want to go...but I know I wish someone had helped me identify where my degree could take me, rather than giving me trite let's-just-be-positive one-liners!

Re: I am not doing so well

Hi again @Phoenix_Rising

I have just finished reading your message and I truly understand how you feel too. I think trying to decide to study and what to study is quite stressful because you want to make the right decision. I think you are really brave to open up as you did to me. What degree did you study? I truly do feel for you because I know how much work you must have put into your degree, and at the end of the day you feel it was not worth it.

I have a few more days before I will make a decision and tomorrow I am just going to have a day off from making decisions and I am just going to have some fun.

When did you finish your degree??

Sorry I can't articulate so well tonight I have a lot on my mind and feeling quite anxious and scared.

Re: I am not doing so well

@oceangirl, I'm around too if you feel like chatting more. I didn't finish my uni studies due to mental illness. But I think having a degree of any kind may help with future employment possibilities in a general way.

Hi @Zoe7

I am not doing so well. I am just struggling atm. Perhaps I am just overthinking things. How are you?

Re: I am not doing so well

I'm ok @oceangirl

You generally don't overthink things so there must be a good reason why you are struggling! What are you struggling with?
