Something’s not right

being told I have a “vulnerable brain”

being told I have a “vulnerable brain”

Does anyone else get told this? Whilst it might be true, I find it stopping me from doing the things I want to do in fear my mind wont be able to handle it. It’s like I’m being fed a self-limiting belief.

Hrmmmm @Cherub23 . Interesting. What exactly does a 'vulnerable brain' mean? What does it entail?

It means I’m susceptible to strong feelings and emotions… I think.

@Cherub23

Who told you that? Sounds more like a confidence issue than a "vulnerable brain", whatever that means.

Oh! Then I must have a vulnerable brain too! @Cherub23

So, here's my thinking... if you have a 'vulnerable brain' (strong emotions and feelings), then that must mean:

- You care deeply

- You are able to have sympathy for people

- You have are highly passionate about what you believe in

- You have strong intuition

Have you heard of HSP? (No, not Halal Snack Pack).

HSP is "Highly Sensitive Person". Some people call this a '6th Sense'.

Whilst it may sound like a 'bad' thing, it is actually a superpower!

I still haven't found the exact video I was looking for @Spirit_Healer . But the content is similar to the one I shared.

It pretty much said that HSP have superpowers, and if they channel them, we can go a long way.

@Cherub23 , @Ed1975 , it sounds like HSP are more common than first thought!

@tyme from experience, I think a lot of HSPs end up in the helping professions because of their ability to empathise with others. This can take a toll, so HSPs need to learn to keep work worries at work, and not bring them home.

Re: being told I have a “vulnerable brain”

For me I interpret vulnerable brain, highly sensitive, and hypersensitive, to all mean kinda the same thing. For me, it basically means being sensitive to things most people wouldn't or being sensitive to a greater extent than most people. I think it's a good thing, but yeh it does have it's own challenges. Like for example, some people because of their increased sensitivity also find it really difficult to deal with opinions/views that are different to theirs as they immediately feel quite threatened and misunderstood. Such people are also unfortunately more susceptible to mental health struggles such as depression and anxiety, and can get quite upset very easily when exposed to news like crimes or war. I personally consider myself to be a highly sensitive person, and yeh I've been struggling 😞

@Lonely_Soul @Cherub23 ,

Totally. And I tend to agree that HSPs have their own challenges, but so does everyone else. I think it's important to focus on what we can do well, and harness those strengths as a way to help us overcome some of these challenges.

But yes @Lonely_Soul , I hear the challenges are real. I can totally relate. And I think it took a very long time for me to get to the place where I was able to accept myself for who I was and nurture my strengths to become the person I want to be. This takes time, training and a lot of hard work, but it's totally achieveable!

And that's why we're here!
