Brother living with me - I’m 56 he’s 62 - adhd and schizophrenia- grief -

I have my brother living me - I’m 56 and he’s 63 - I have a partner of 24 yrs and daughter ( on the spectrum -19 yrs ) living with us - my brother lost his partner of 24 years due to cancer - year ago and our mother last December due to cancer - he has no friends or family ( has 4 children from previous wife - estranged) he has been living with us for approx 2 months - was living with my mum in her unit - stayed there after mum died but couldn’t live there as it’s in a town he was brought up in but hates - hadn’t lived there for 45 years - he got himself into all sorts of trouble - including police - calling me to fix -eventually he moved in with me ( I live close to where he used to live and have always looked after him emotionally and financially ) but his partner helped alot - now he has nothing / threaten suicide and doesn’t get along with my partner causing alot of issues - he has driven off to mums unit ( 2 nd time ) as said he can’t live here - then it costs me heaps of hurt and money when he goes off the rails - he doesn’t work and lives off Centrelink ( 2.5 years) hr has physical health issues too / I’ve tried to get him help ( he didn’t 2 nights in acute mental health which he was angry thinking I did it - I didn’t ) it’s too much and now I’m not well physically and mentally and trying to keep my job ( nurse) but so distressed - living on egg shells and emotionally exhausted - help

Hi @Djlic1 ,

Thank you for sharing. Welcome for joining the forum here.

Sounds like you have a lot going on. Can't imagine how difficult it must be trying to balance everything.

Hopefully you will be able to find some support here.

hey @Djlic1 sounds like things have been really tough for your brother and you, and i can see that you're working so hard to support him. looking after loved ones can be overwhelming, especially when you've got lots of other things on your plate too - i'm so glad you've reached out.

Carer Gateway offers some free services to help you support your loved ones, and also provide you some tools and support for your own mental health. as they say, you can't pour from an empty cup, and we want to make sure your cup stays filled. you can also check out Support for carers | Mind Australia.

take care and continue reaching out, our community is here for you 💙
