Newly diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive Disorder

Newly diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive Disorder

Hello, everyone with a dx of IED.

What country is this forum in? It would not take my postal code, so I'm thinking it's not in the United States.

I'm an elder, and have been in psychotherapy and psychiatric care for 30 years or so.

Until this week, my diagnosis was Bipolar II, but my psychiatrist has told me she's thought ever since we met (on Zoom, actually) that I had IED, not Bipolar II.

We are weaning me off the bipolar medications.

I used to throw and break things, but the closest I've come to that lately is to bang my telephone hard on the desk, hoping to smash it, but it was not damaged. What sets me off is corporations that I have to have accounts with, which have robovoices and won't let me get through to a live person on the phone. Sometimes I scream so loud and hard that I'm hoarse for several hours. I don't scream at a live person on the phone. I scream at the robovoice.

One of the reasons I want to get off the medications is because in the country where I live, USA, there it is likely that the government will take away my health care and prescription drug benefits. I have set up a weekly psychotherapy appointment on Zoom.

Is there anyone here who has calmed down from IED? I'm much calmer than I used to be.
