Welcome and getting started

Suppressed Emotional Trauma

Suppressed Emotional Trauma

Hi all. I'm just wondering if anyone has any similar experience and whether I may be experiencing a real psychological issue or if it's an age thing. I'm a male in my late 60s and believe I have been suppressing feelings for an ex-girlfriend for 50 years without realising it. I thought I had moved on, but the anniversary of the break-up has sparked what I could only describe as an emotional breakdown whereby I am re-experiencing the grief of having the relationship end. I am thinking of seeking treatment or counselling to deal with it. Any ideas?

Hey @ComaToes ,

Thank you for reaching out.

Whilst we cannot advise whether someone 'needs' counselling or not based on a post, from my own experiences, I feel that if there is something that is affecting a person whereby their quality of life is being impacted, then it may be worthwhile looking into it.

Seeking counselling or support doesn't mean something is 'wrong' with you. Sometimes, it's good to have someone to hear you out just so you can get things out.

We are all different, so I hope you find what works for you.

If you are interested, you can check out SANE's Guided Recovery here: https://www.sane.org/referral

Check if you are eligible, and if not, wait a few days and on 1st July, the program will be accessible Australia-wide.

This is a free service over the course of between 14-16 weeks. You can choose to connect to a counsellor or peer worker.

No pressure of course! It decision is yours entirely @ComaToes
