Oh dear @Dimity

I can imagine the stress!

Thanks for raising this. I'd never considered it.

Re: Job seeker cut off during hospitalisation

I read this article this morning @Dimity it definitely shouldn't be happening! It was shocking to read that all of the medical certificates where rejected in this case because psychosis was a symptom rather than a diagnosis!

Re: Job seeker cut off during hospitalisation

If wage earner doesn’t meet their requirements including notifying their employer they are unable to attend work, they risk loosing their wages and being sacked. why should jobseekers be treated differently?

as a country, if we are not helping and encouraging jobseekers to be in a work routine are we actually disadvantaging them and assisting them to fail? As a country, are we helping perpetuate the circle of jobseekers having their income stopped?

Hey @Former-Member

I know I'd also be pretty appalled if I heard that someone lost their job while they were being hospitalized too. And in the event that you were fired because of an absence due to an emergency hospitalization which you were able to supply evidence of, I do think that there'd be grounds for unfair dismissal.

@Ru-bee not sure about connection between your post and mine. All good. Doesn’t matter.

Re: Job seeker cut off during hospitalisation

No worries @Former-Member I might not have articulated myself very well 🙂 I'll give it another go

I guess my thought is that these situations that were shared here are a bit outside of the norm and, to me, don't signify that they aren't being encouraged to be in a work routine

So, you were asking why those on Jobseeker payments should be treated differently, and suggesting that we as a society should be encouraging them to have similar responsibilities and expectations as they might face in the workplace, (hope I've understood that right, please feel free to correct me!) and I was just suggesting that neither situation should result in loss of income, whether these events happened when employed, or when accessing Centrelink payments.

I understand your thoughts about modelling useful skills that can support Jobseekers when they do gain employment, but would perhaps say that the situations discussed here are pretty exceptional circumstances

Hey @Liv2 , I'm so so sorry to hear this.

It's certainly very troubling to hear that you are a 'number' and a 'case'... it sounds like this is the way we are heading with so much automated roboting work done....

We're here to support if you need any social/emotional connection @Liv2
