Something’s not right

I have accomplished nothing I have wanted to

I have accomplished nothing I have wanted to

I have accomplished nothing I have wanted to, I have spent the last 8-9 years out of highschool and I haven't applied myself to my education. I don't even think it's worth still pursuing- i did switch courses and universities several times. I have major anxiety and I feeling of just not doing anything because I'm a perfectionist/fear of failure in a weird way as well I'd rather know I didn't put any effort in to something but it also stops me from even starting anything to begin with. Even writing this out is stressing me out, I have thoughts that there's no point because the likelyhood of being understood is low if I don't spend ages explaining myself to a T. I have an insane amounts of anxiety. I practically just stay in the same spot all day and don't move. I did work for a couple of years but it was at a place that doesn't have much career growth and I ultimately quit because of a workplace fling that caused me to much grief. I think I was severally emotionally manipulated and I feel like betrayed myself and my autonomy, they were several years older than me. I never have been able to get anything done since they entered y life too. I still have them as presence in my life but I don't even think I'm in a relationship with them not that I think I really want to be. I just am absolutely sick of being a failure, I really want change and I don't know how to get what I want.

Hi @Jadia

Thanks for sharing your experiences, and I really understand how hard it can be when society places so much emphasis on study, work, and accomplishments and it feels like we're not keeping up. It's really hard to unwire from those messages, but you're not a failure, and if you're open to it, could you be kind and compassionate to yourself, and recognise the factors outside your control that have affected to you now, and how you've been doing your best?

Anxiety is really debilitating, it's not just something you should be able to tell yourself to snap out of. That's just something that has been important in my recovery and overcoming self-judgment and criticism, which I'm still working on.

Re: the emotionally abusive relationship and the person's presence in your life, are there any positive social connections you could lean into? It doesn't erase things but I've found that helps me when feeling disillusioned with other people.

@Jadia hey i think in a positive light u have established boundaries for what u will settle for regarding ur future, job expectations, enjoyment on what u study, what standards u establish

the fear of failure is terrifying, and know that you're not weak because hardly anyone can overcome it. there often is little to no recognition for study, work and aforementioned achievements by society, i really hope u find reassurance from people in person that you're doin a fabulous job but in any case we're here for u ❤️
