@avant-garde So very hard, when different loyalties/ duties/ attachments/ and separations in our family of origin dynamics make loving relationship and connection more difficult.

It is good you have some sense of her care, among her physical and psychological problems.

My father died young, and was a victim of CSA abuse himself, in the orphanages, not a perpetrator. I guess it is important to understand their humaneness and the limits of their capacity for love. Love is so tricky and understanding the levels of responsibility for “love” at different ages and in different positions is not simple when family dynamics are not simple. I guess it is important, not to idealise them in ways that split us from reality. My mother could be very proud, disparaging and manipulative and betrayed me all throughout my and her lives. In a way I took my responsibilities to her more seriously than she did to me. My father encouraged us to love and respect her, while he was alive, but she couldn’t be reciprocal, to him or us. She did her best but shielded herself from the abandonments and neglect and misuse of me, by a strange pride. I see it as due to her war trauma, but it has serious consequences in the ongoing generations. Tbh, I had to do a lot of research into self esteem, shame and pride, in a deep classical sense, way before the recent use of the word pride… Eg .., in the current pride thread. I do try to be careful with words.

@chibam @tyme @Dimity maybe there could be some thread discussing the concept of CONSENT. It is actually a huge topic.
