✨Sunday Intention Setting✨

✨Sunday Intention Setting✨

Hello lovely people,

I have been reflecting on some ways we can support you all through our recovery-oriented way of connecting on the forums, and thought that creating a weekly intention setting/reflection conversation could be really helpful. 🥰

Intention-setting can allow us to more mindfully focus our attention onto the things we would like to explore more of (without too much pressure!). And when we do so within community, it can help us to feel more supported as we go about exploring new habits and ideas.

Now, this isn't about showing up perfectly or reaching all of our 'goals' overnight, but rather, exploring what is possible, what we enjoy, and how we can feel more safely connected to ourselves.

So, what will this look like exactly?

1. Set your intention for the week. For example, I am going to practice allowing myself 5 minutes a day to slow down.

2. Reflect. You can do this throughout the week via your notes app, a journal, or here on the forums. *Notice what feels good, what doesn't, and why.

3. Share the following Sunday. Let us know what you were able to explore and what came up for you/if you have any questions or need some support.

Remember - there is no right or wrong! It's so fine if all you did was hold the intention in the back of your mind - change takes time. I would love you all to have fun with this and to explore things from a place of curiosity and compassion. 💛

Re: ✨Sunday Intention Setting✨

funny how the two things are connected yet treated totally separately re physical and mental

@Ruby26 I had a friend who I visited years ago after they were committed . they did art after things settled down. I brought them cigarettes.

@TAB physical and mental health should be treated as coming from the same place. I read this book called "The body keeps the score" which explained really well how physical health and mental health are impacted by trauma.

I'm doing art things in a community mental health service, which I find is nicer than being in a psych ward. It must have been hard for your friend being committed. It was kind of you to visit and bring cigarettes, you sound like a good friend.

Re: ✨Sunday Intention Setting✨

@AuntGlow my intention for the week was to complete activities that support my sense of identity.

Activities I completed:

I joined a social art group. I made a card with watercolour paints. I enjoyed the painting but I found it a bit awkward when other participants weren't there and I was just left with the two mental health workers, who I had only just met. I'm hoping more people will be around next time. I liked that there was an activity suggested, rather than having to work out an idea of what to do on my own.

I had a session with an individual art therapist. I found I got very anxious. I find it really difficult to communicate my feelings and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. I'm not sure if my communication skills are good enough for therapy. I have been doing the homework set by the therapist and I have been finding it helpful.

I attended a support group. Things are a mess right now with the group. A former member of the group has sent me upsetting messages on social media and now she's been added back into the group chat. I've contacted the worker who runs the group. I'm thinking unless the worker has a solution that I will have to leave the group. I feel very sad but also relieved because I don't want to have to deal with this person anymore and I won't have to if I don't go back to the group.

I went to a concert and I had a wonderful time. I joined in singing and swaying to the music with the whole crowd. It brought up a lot of important feels I needed to process too.

@TAB I'm sorry to hear about your friend's substance abuse issues- Sane edited out a lot of the details but sending you thoughts anyway. I know it can be tough to support a friend in this situation.

Re: ✨Sunday Intention Setting✨

Things are alright my end @Ruby24, thanks for asking 😊. They could be a lot lot better but that’s okay! Sorry I didn’t answer you re you questions about goals. Honestly I don’t achieve much so goals for me are scary but I love celebrating everyone else’s goals! Just didn’t want to think I was ignoring ya! Got a couple of days and then I’ll think about an intention for next week 😎. What else have you been you to? Hope you have had a good day

@Chasingsunsets all good, hope things are going better for you now. It is very sweet of you to celebrate other people's goals. What is the difference between an intention and a goal?

I've been very sick with a bad gastro bug. I'm back to being able to eat properly again and sit upright. Gastro doesn't mix very well with my chronic physical health conditions, but everything is back on track again. I'm having a couple of friends over tomorrow and I'm having an assessment with a dietitian next week. What have you been up to?
