Anxiety becoming worse

Anxiety becoming worse

Hey everyone,

My first time posting here!

I have had anxiety for years and have been medicated for it. I feel like it isn’t working anymore and I’m unsure of what to do?!

My heart rate has been high which is sending me in to a panic but I think it’s the antidepressants that are doing it!

I’ve booked in with my gp and will have to wait to see him about reducing my medication to see if it helps. I think I am on a too higher dose which is making me more anxious than helping me. I have been on it for 5+ years so I think it’s either stopped working or a too high dose.

I don’t know what to do and I’m so scared!

Has anyone else felt like this?

I just want to feel normal and not be a scared blubbering mess!

Hi @Crumb and welcome.

I can't speak to it being a medication issue but I can empathise with the increase in your anxiety.

I'm struggling through the same thing, though it's not to do with medication. Anxiety can be a scary thing when it ramps up. I know how it feels.

@missingtooth I’m sorry your going through the same thing! I hope that your anxiety settles down soon!

It’s crazy how it triggers everyone differently!

@Crumb I'm sorry your anxiety has been higher for you. I can really sympathise with you aswell, mine has really kicked it up a notch lately. I'm not medicated for mine and can't be so i have to find different way's to manage.

I hope it helps to know that you are not alone in this feeling, we really do understand what it's like. I hope you can get into your gp and get things resolved for you.

The high heart rate that comes with anxiety is scary and uncomfortable. I have an undiagnosed heart condition where my heart rate sits at 180bpm for hours or days at a time, it's such a horrible feeling. So I know the feeling of the high heart rate all too well.

We are always here for you, take care of yourself 😊

@MissGremlinthanks for the reply I hope that you are doing ok?!

I got in to my go on Wednesday and although he said I shouldn’t have stopped the medication abruptly he said I might not need them anymore so tapering down would be a good idea.

I’m on a lower dose [edited by moderator] and boy to I feel like a new person! I haven’t had any side effects and I think it was just what I needed!

I feel so clearer in the head and have done things I’ve been meaning to do for ages!

I’m just kicking myself because I have felt really bad/bad anxiety on a higher dose [edited by moderator] and I thought it was normal so I just put up with it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Re: Anxiety becoming worse

@Crumb I'm so glad that you got into a your gp, sounds like tapering down has been really helpful. It's great that you are feeling better and not having any side effects.

Well done for getting things done, having a clearer head really helps.

It's really hard being in that situation cos sometimes medications can make us feel worse before we start getting better, so we often overlook how bad it is just thinking that maybe it's normal. But the point is you did take the step to see your gp and now things are better.

Onwards and upwards from here hopefully 😊

Re: Anxiety becoming worse

@MissGremlin Yes I’m glad to! I had been on 100mg for 6-7 years and suffered through it thinking it was normal so I am glad that I’ve finally made the connection!

I hope you’re doing well?!

@Crumb that's so tough to go through it for so long, so glad you finally got it changed and things are going better.

I'm as ok as I can be.
