I always have to be the bigger person in my relationship with my parent I have to be the one with controlled emotions and everything and don’t know it’s just frustrating they can act however they like but I have to have it all together and I feel so alone

Re: Relationships

Hi @Wills

This post has resonated with me so much. I totally understand where you are coming from.

My relationship with my parent is very similar. They can say and do what they want but the moment I do, I am the one that gets into trouble. I try and be the one that keeps it together.

I also find that their words/actions can have such a big effect on me.

It can be so exhausting both mentally and physically. Many times you just need a break from them too.

Please know that you are not alone. There are people on here that do understand.

Sitting with you @Wills

This resonates with me a lot, takes me right back to being a kid and having to learn to swallow my own emotions because some how they were never as valid as my parent's.

You're not alone in this, even though it feels that way at times.

Re: Relationships

That's especially difficult @Chacha89 I'm sorry to hear that. Do you have any supports for your dad at the moment, and for you?

Re: Relationships

no I don’t. My parent seem to think they are “perfect” and in no need of support so I’m the one beating everything

Re: Relationships

@Chacha89 my mum was diagnosed with Dementia at the start of this year so understand. If you want to as any questions please do so.

@Wills it's hard when they think they are perfect. My mum constantly criticises me. It is always my fault, my problem.
