@Former-Member I have thought about getting guinea pigs for their manure to use on the garden. Rabbits require more attention.
Need to have some grass put in for them and get a hutch and a run. I’m also concerned about all the roaming cats around here. My neighbour’s cat is not contained at night and there are others that are outside all the time. My cat doesn’t
go in back yard much except when she comes with me and she mostly goes out the front so I could keep guinea pigs in back yard under house or under balcony. It is cold under house. Maybe too cold not sure. Have to investigate/research.
I know in Peru they are kept inside people’s houses. They have dirt or concrete floors. The indigenous peoples eat them for the protein. I have eaten one while in Peru. Was pretty average and lots of small bones. My travelling companion ate llama.
I’ve also eaten locusts in Mexico. The legs are fried with chilli - I like those. Don’t like the squishy bodies. Indigenous people eat for protein. There are plagues of locusts quite often in Mexico, but I digress pardon me. Haven’t had armadillo it’s rare to find on menus as endangered and very expensive too. Couldn’t bring myself to try that. Have tried crocodile - hate - and wild boar - horrid - in Cuba.
Some foods are delicious ate a turkey that lived in old woman’s and her very old father’s house. Lived in bathroom with dirt floor for several weeks. She plucked it and then cooked it in mole (an elaborate sauce of chocolate, sesame and chilli among other things). We had that the day after the day of the dead (halloween). I went with her halloween for mass in cemetery and then we walked up the hill for local elections. Only male candidates.
Anyway that’s enough from me. I’ll stop raving now.
