Sorry you have gone so long without sleep. It’s not easy, even a bit torturous. We have experienced extreme mania here in my house with my son. I have been described as being Bipolar Mixed State, for what it is worth.

All I can suggest is that you be with yourself. Expend the energy when you have it. My son goes to the gym or does creative work. Honour your own ebb and flow of energy. We can’t usually control it in a rigid manner. When you are low be gentle with yourself and choose activities accordingly. I used to have a lot of insomnia from stress and anxiety but these days it is most manageable. I am still on mild dose of medication.

Re: mixed episode

Do you have any high energy hobbies or routines?

@Eden1919 like gym, walking or dancing? When I get elevated and agitated I need to walk it off. Then I go pretty fast for an old lady.

I also get the idea of hanging on like a surf board or big dipper. One problem with medication can be knowing it's broad range of impacts... More than just being an antipsychotic. It not a simple switch, meaning zero psychosis. It impacts dopamine and serotonin receptors etcetc. That is why I always go with the most careful titration. Adjust a little and normalise down, always going for the minimum therapeutic dose. That is what the new Health and Wellbeing states. Once we have been on meds for a long time it is hard for anyone to really know the full impacts. Still all that is in our power is to tweak our activities a little to absorb and dissipate the energy. For a long time, 25 years I was exhausted, hardworking and depressed. Then I did Start to get lighter feelings of joy. They are all interrelated. I hope you are not so speedy you can't take in some of the positive side.

I am sorry your psychiatrist is not engaging well with you. They sometimes have problems with comprehension and empathy. If it persists too long you may have to look for another. I try not to change, even when I know my pdoc doesn't really have a clue and is just on auto pilot. I have been with him about 8-9 years. He can't really help but it keeps me stable, cos I don't have to go through the whole... Letting a new person into my intimate space.

Honour your own soul journey and try and work with the system, even though we know its far from purrrrffect.

I am also having trouble sleeping at the moment. I close my eyes but can’t get the deep restful sleep my body and brain needs to function, I am also bipolar and see to cycle between manic states and depression. When I go to the depression pole I can feel suicidal and like life isn’t worth living any more, when I feel like that I reach out to crisis lines for a chat or try to get in contact with a friend to talk through how I’m feeling. When I’m manic I’ll listen to music or read a book to calm me down, I realise that would be a good time to exercise as well as I tend to be high mental energy during manic states but not necessarily high physical energy. Maybe try something gentle like walking yoga swimming or biking. But make sure your psychologist and psychiatrist take you seriously or find ones that do. In the meantime you have reached out here we are here for you and will listen if you need to vent, good luck
