Bullied at work

Bullied at work

Hello,

When do you know that you're being bullied at work. I have a colleague who will send brief messages with comments that point to my inferiority and i am actually worried every morning whether he's gonna be at work. I don't want to go to work this morning and I know I have to.

Hi @Former-Member

I guess you have gone to work now - or not - that would be a hard decision to make if there is someone giving you are hard time with internal emails or brief messages

If this guy is sending messages rather than talking to you face to face about your "inferiorities" - yes that is a form of bullying - so what can you do about it.

I would love to hear what other people have to say - but there are a couple of things you can do because work-place bullying is illegal now

One thing you can do is to go right up to him and say "If you have anything to say to me say it to my face" - yes - I know how hard that can be - and you need your reply to his implied criticisms - and one face-saving way it to say "Thank you - I understand - that is your perception"

And get back to your desk or wherever - and send us a message and talk about it here which is a safe place to do that

Or print out the emails or gather the messages and take them to your supervisor - and ask about this kind of interaction where you work - because if someone is picking at your "inferiorities" in such a matter - it's wrong

It's not good at all waking up on days when you have to work and feeling so bad about all of this

All the best with that Flower

Re: Bullied at work

Hi @Former-Member,
Forward these emails to his supervisor and your supervisor. State that these emails constitute bullying and request that this unacceptable behaviour be stopped with their assistance.

As @Owlunar said print out all these emails and keep a hard copy so your situation is well documented. If you have a union speak to them too.

In addition speak to your GP and psychologist about this matter so that it is on record outside the workplace.

Be strong and act now to protect yourself.

I would also talk to other team members you trust and see if they have rubbings with this person. It could be that this person is just awful at communicating and you can both work on that or the person is just a bullie but then you might have a group of people to support each other and address the issue head on and if nothing happens forward the emails to head office.

Something I do when someone is mean to me at work is I be over nice to them. I ask them about there weekend and then the next week bring up things they did and how it went and most times the people lose the attituded and a friendship is formered or we know we are not going to be friends but we learn to respect each other.

All the best
