Extremely worried

Extremely worried

I thought my jaw pain was bruxism but have noticed I can't keep my tongue still and and am pursing my lips all the time. I was on an anti psychotic for 8 months and stopped due to extreme akasthesia. My psych was dismissive of my symptoms but the website says Tardive dyskinesia can happen during or after stopping and can be permanent. Very upset

wasn't warned about this risk.

Hey @Janice_22 ,

Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear about your concerns at the moment. I can see why you'd be worried.

Do you have another doctor you can speak to?

I wonder if these symptoms will disappear after a while.

Re: Extremely worried

It may not be be tardive dyskinesia and it will go away.
But you have brought up something that is coming our way as mental health consumers if it is not here already.

The brand new fashion in psychiatry or medicine is.....

tada...

De- prescribing.

So, tapped on the shoulder by their professional indemnity provider your average Dr Plod, suddenly decides in a whirlwind of intellectual and moral fervour dr (he/she or it),
is going to deprescribe!

And you as a patient are going to discover a few things.
Like:
your doctor cares more about their comfortable retirement than you,
you have a pain in your left shoulder that won't go away and wakes you up at night,
you feet seem to swell and you get pins and needles,
the issues that lead you to be prescribed the medication are no longer relevant,
your nervous system is going to feel like a car with a timing belt on the way out...
you are in fact alone.

A bit of psychoeducation may reveal you;
know more about the side effects of medication than your dr does,
you may become a bit annoyed to discover,

there are hundreds and in fact thousands of people in Australia coping with this latest great trend in Australian general medicine and psychiatry,

and you are another pioneer in this great new wave.
