Cost of living

Cost of living

Hi guys.. spent the last 6 years of my life getting sober, getting healthy and really doing my best to be the best person I can be. But I genuinely can't survive at the moment. I was 95kgs and have lost weight from running out of food constantly.. [edited by moderator] I'm at breaking point and can't find any short term solutions to help me.. I don't want to suffer for being a good person any more. I genuinely would prefer to suffer from stupid decisions rather than from trying to do the right thing. I am filled with hate from the lack of support available and I feel like my only option is to just go full scumbag and start taking advantage of everything and every one. I am at a crossroads and I need convincing that nice guys don't finish last but big time..

Hey @Frostygecko4, thank you for sharing your experiences with the community!

It's amazing that you have been 6 years sober, and congratulations on an amazing achievement.

I encourage you to continue to share your experiences, and your peers may have some insights that they can share in response.

Take care

That is tough! Losing so much weight from lack of food. Shouldn’t be happening to anybody in Australia. Not sure why the money shortage: not employed; not receiving government benefits; rent taking up to much of your income or whatever. You need to talk to someone who could provide practical assistance but, as I’m not in that field, I don’t know who to recommend. Department of Social Services might be a place to start?

Yeah I'm severe adult adhd and had a big problem with junkies in the housing sa flats I used to live in. Complained 1000 times to both police and housing and after two years of straight up abuse housing sa decided instead of acting to remove the junkies, they would move me to a new town on my own. I don't have the ability to really understand what I was doing so I said yes and got moved away from my friends and family. Now I'm stuck in a small dead end town with nobody I can turn to for help.. I have tried so hard. I made myself a meal plan and done a budget with salvation army and I'm -40$ a week trying to survive. I even bought more food this pay so I wouldn't run out but then I ran out of gas so I can't even cook the pasta that would have fed me until this Wednesday. I pay my bills and I really try my best to set a good example but I'm lying to myself now.. doing the right thing does not make your life better. It makes it harder and its distroying me

I’m not qualified to offer specific advice but could the Salvos at least point you in the right direction? Good luck.

Re: Cost of living

Thanks heaps. Yeah there's a place similar to salvation army here. I could try going there but it will absolutely shatter my self esteem. It took a lot for me to turn my back on everything I knew and I had faith that the positivity of my actions would lead me down a beautiful path but after the past few years I feel no better off and because I won't take advantage of things and live a karma based lifestyle. I am being smashed by all areas of life.. I'll try hang in there, I'm not suicidal but I'm definitely considering becoming a supervillain..

Its not that good guys come last. Its because they dont appear as red flags. I still understand the appeal of bad boys [edited by moderator] I understand the challenge of the costs of living, l live on protein shakes, as sometimes stress makes it a challenge to want to eat as well as costs. I thought lifeline or other social services could help you unpack your mental health challenges. Grow (mental health support) has groups around Australia that could help? Look them up.
