Long time bpd sufferer

Long time bpd sufferer

Hi guys I've just found this page. I'm 47 and have had bpd since I can remember but only got diagnosed with it 18months ago while serving an 18 month prison sentence for my disorder. I am not blaming anyone but myself for my actions but I am once again in trouble for something I cannot control I have a beautiful partner and daughter who stood by me but will now lose them again. I continue to hurt my loved ones and push everyone around me away. I tried medication for years. I'm no idiot as run a construction company. But am an idiot in life I can't continually hurt everyone and have attempted suicide a few times and obviously no good at that either, I'm to weak to do that properly. All I've wanted in life is to be happy I really don't want to die but I don't want to go back to jail either. The cops have painted me out to be some sort of monster and I'm not.

Hi @Jorro77

I think you have a few positives going on. You got a BPD diagnosis whilst in prison? That is an excellent use of 18 months and I’m guessing you didn’t have to pay for it.

BPD is arguably one of the most stigmatised disorders. It is rarely understood by family, friends, society, health professionals or the justice system. You are a person who has achieved a lot. You have people who love and support you even if you don’t think you deserve it. Let them love you. I can guarantee they aren’t perfect either.

I don’t know what you have done but I do know there is an over representation of people with mental health issues in the court and corrective services. If it’s relevant, you could ask for a mental health assessment or be represented by a community legal service who help defendants affected by their mental health.

You’ve got this @Jorro77.….the moment you reached out to this forum.
