Welcome and getting started

Depression

Depression

I’m new here and wanted to reach out. I’ve struggled with depression for years. Medication doesn’t seem to work. I often turn to bad habits to try and feel happy but can’t seem to find happiness in anything.

this year I’ve finished my second degree, changed careers, broken some bones, financially fucked up, and held my mother as she passed away. If I wasn’t depressed before, I am now. I struggle to see the point in anything and just want to disappear. I feel I’ve become a financial burden on my father who is now questioning my spending. My partner doesn’t seem to understand the struggle. I don’t want to exist.

Can anyone relate, help or recommend a group session to heal?

Hello @Agirl and welcome to the forums. Well done for reaching out, that takes strength. I'm sorry to hear what you have gone through recently, even just one of those things would have been hard let alone going through so many.

Have you thought about seeing a Gp and getting a referral to talk to a psychologist/counsellor? It can also take time to find the right medication, but i also found that medication is best used in conjunction with therapy.

I know Sane run guided therapy programs @tyme may be able to help more with that.

You are not alone and we are here to support you however we can. Take care of yourself and I'm here to chat if you want/ need to ❤️.

Re: Depression

hey @Agirl
its sounding really tough for you
would you consider seeing a psychologist? this could be the first step for you
i can understand not wanting to exist and the bad habits to cope as i also experience this ongoing
perhaps there is a support group in you area? you can sometimes find these through social media libraries community centres

Re: Depression

@Agirl the loss of your mother is always going to be a huge grief journey. I would look for grief groups or death cafes, get counseling but be careful about your own life.

I spent a lot of time wanting to be with… what I call… my dead people. Somehow we need to wade through the grief waters, come to terms, little bit by little bit, and eventually find new meaning.

I found one tip helpful… to have a photo, gift, plant, special memory object… to focus on and help externalise some of the feelings.

Maybe work on your financial management, separately, bit by bit too. Most people have spent too much sometimes.

Hopefully your relationship with your dad is navigable… it’s a tricky time of adjustment.

Be kind to yourself

Hey @Agirl ,

How are you today?

Like what @outlander said, do you have any supports in place? It sounds so hard to sit with all these things on your own.

Have you shared your feelings with a GP or someone?
