Something’s not right

Anxiety, ruminating thoughts, spiraling out of control

Anxiety, ruminating thoughts, spiraling out of control

I’ve struggled with anxiety for years. The past few weeks it’s been overwhelming. It’s all I think about and when I’m not thinking about intrusive or ruminating thoughts, I’m thinking of ways to stop it. Which is causing me a lot of emotional exhaustion and making me think I’m losing my mind at times. The struggle is real. And I’m stuck.

Hello @sportie34 and welcome to the forums. Anxiety can be hard to manage, I'm sorry that it's so hard for you right now. Do you know if there's anything that could be contributing to the increase in the anxiety, has anything happened or changed in your life recently?

Have you thought about seeing a GP and getting a referral to see a psychologist/counsellor? There's alot of different strategies you can use to try to ease the anxiety, things like grounding techniques, breathing exercises etc

You are not alone and we are here to support you however we can 😊.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I have just started seeing a counselor however I have it stuck in my head it’s not enough and I’ve let it pile up for too long. There’s a few factors that I believe could be triggering this. And I’m trying to find ways to eliminate them. But it’s just really hard dealing with the obsession of having my thoughts constantly.

@sportie34 it's great that you have started seeing a counsellor, that's a big step to make and takes alot of strength. Give it some time, whilst things may have piled up for a while it's just a matter of chipping away at it bit by bit.

I know how hard it can be to manage the thoughts constantly. I have anxiety and sometimes it's completely overwhelming. For me I run on distractions, so things like colouring, listening to music, watching a TV show or movie, going for a walk etc. Anything to try and put my focus somewhere else rather than focused on those thoughts that are filling my head. It's important to remember that what works for one person may not work for another and that these things also take time and practice.

I hope the counselling helps you and you can find what works for you.

Always happy to chat if you want/need to 😊.
