Social media and beauty standards

Social media and beauty standards

Unrealistic beauty standards portrayed through social media can harm self-esteem, leading to insecurity and dissatisfaction with one’s appearance. Social media and advertising often promote edited or unattainable looks, making people feel pressured to conform. This can result in anxiety, depression, or unhealthy behaviors like extreme dieting and cosmetic procedures. Embracing natural beauty and self-acceptance is essential to counteract these harmful effects. Accepting our bodies and loving ourselves is necessary for our mental and emotional well-being. When we embrace who we are, we build confidence, self-respect, and inner peace, which leads to a happier life.

Re: Social media and beauty standards

love this topic!! i used to believe social media too much, i thought that people had picture-perfect lives and every woman had my dream body but me.

but then i slowly started to learn that some of the people i was idolising, who i thought were so confident in their skin and happy with their bodies... were actually really struggling with their food and body relationship. some people edited their pics before they posted and sucked in the stomachs when they posed. one time, a woman that i had envied for their body online, i saw her in real life - and seeing that her belly protruded her clothes just like mine made me feel so much more comfortable in my skin. her pics definitely didn't show that, but i guess that's social media for ya!!

there's a lot of factors to consider like genetics, hormones, lifestyles, etc., that can impact one's physique. 100% agree that its super important to be kinder and more accepting towards ourselves and our bodies. they change. when we're stressed, on our period, when you're pregnant, going through menopause, when we're sick, etc. and that's okay, it's just a sign that we're human.
