Trauma Dumping
We sometimes overshare, which might lead to trauma dumping. Trauma dumping is the act of oversharing distressing personal experiences, often in an unsolicited or inappropriate setting, without considering the emotional impact on the listener. Unlike healthy venting, which seeks support and connection, trauma dumping can overwhelm others and create an unbalanced emotional exchange. It often happens in casual conversations, on social media, or in relationships where boundaries are unclear. This behavior may stem from a deep need for validation or relief but can leave the listener feeling helpless or emotionally drained. While sharing struggles is essential, respectfully and mindfully fosters healthier communication. Setting boundaries and seeking professional support can help manage the urge to trauma dump.
