Welcome and getting started

Looking for additional sports and resources

Looking for additional sports and resources

Hi all. I am new here to the forums. I am 45 and struggled with substance use for 30yrs. I also have had complex mental health issue’s for about 12yrs. Schizoaffective,CPTSD,SUD,ADHD traits. I’m really low in mood and am pretty socially isolated with no family supports out community connections. I am looking to connect with me people who have similar experiences. Do you have any resources or supports that you know of or that you have personally found to be useful? I need to get out of this spiral I’m in, because it leads no where good.

Hey @de_liberate ,

Welcome to the forums. Thank you for being so honest about your situation. It takes a lot to reach out.

Have you every looked into Turning Point's resources? https://www.turningpoint.org.au/

They do a lot of work in this space and they also have a counselling line 24/7.

Have you had a recovery coach or someone in the past @de_liberate ?

Bottom line, do you want things to change??

Re: Looking for additional sports and resources

@de_liberate I suppose it depends what you want to work on.

There are support groups like AA and NA.
There are individual supports for other mental health problems like counsellors etc.

Sometimes there are support groups for various MH issues.

It also depends on your area or possibly could access online groups.

Seeing a GP would help with support services in your local area. Also for Mental Health Care Plan.

I have had a few psychosocial recovery coaches when I was on the NDIS, but did not find them helpful, or informed. It is something I want to look into again though

A psychosocial coach may be quite different to a recovery coach in drug and alcohol. Those in AOD services are often trained specially in these areas @de_liberate

Please don't give up. We are here for you.
