Welcome and getting started

Hello everyone

Hello everyone

I thought I would reach out and say hi to everyone. I started on this forum a few days ago. I had no clue about it until I researched. What led me to researching was that I feel like I’m being dismissed in the world. When I try to explain about my diagnosis and the way it affects me and my behaviour I get shut down. It’s been quite lonely and have been feeling quite flat.

Reading peoples stories the last few days has made me feel a bit better in knowing that I am not alone. I hope I can do the same for others.

Thanks everyone

Hello @Darkness21 and welcome to the forums. It's hard when you try and reach out and express how you are feeling only to feel dismissed and misunderstood.

Please know that you are not alone here. It's a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings here without judgement. We are here to support you however we can.

Take care of yourself, I'm happy to chat if you want to 😊

Hi @Darkness21 @and welcome

As @Former-Member said the forums are a safe and understanding place.

Are you happy to share about your diagnosis and behaviour, or do you just want to do a bit more researching.
I’m sure you’ll find people will be understanding when you feel able to share.

Most people here will have had some less than positive responses to their MH issues unfortunately, so can empathise with reticence to talk about MH issues.

Re: Hello everyone

Thanks for that, I’m finding the forums a safe space full of understanding people.

I’m happy to share a little. I have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and have been diagnosed for over 10 years now. It’s been full of up and downs for sure. The last 6 months have been the hardest. I am on the mend.

However I do get low sometimes and the last few days I have been feeling really flat as when I try to explain what happens to me I get dismissed. I get overwhelmed with emotions and how I explain it is I go from 0 to 100 in a second. When that happens I tend to move away for a little bit because I need to gather my emotions and thoughts. My body is always in constant fight or flight mode. However when I do move away I get told I’m being selfish and that I can’t blame my diagnosis for my actions. So basically they don’t want to hear me out.

At the moment it has left me feeling flat and I’m left feeling confused, dismissed and frustrated.

Re: Hello everyone

@Darkness21 I have BPD and find alot of people don't understand what it can be like.

Completely understand constantly being in fight or flight mode and it's exhausting. You are well within your rights to step away and take time for yourself when things get too much so don't let anyone make you feel selfish for trying to take care of you and your needs.

Unfortunately we can't make people understand what it's like if they choose to think that we are just blaming a diagnosis and they aren't educated on mental health disorders.

I know how hard it is to sit with those feelings but know that you aren't alone and we are here for you. Take care of yourself ❤️

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the validation of experience. It’s been hard feeling like I’m not being understood.

Thanks heaps for reading my story and responding.
