Advocating for change

Ndis changes.

Ndis changes.

The ndis is great, until it's not.
I hadn't felt the repercussions of the ndis changes, until today. The ndia is demanding reports by Monday to prove my funding. The reports I submitted over 12 months for a review (which i never had) are now invalid apparently.
Given reasonable time new reports can be made, however not over a weekend. I fought hard to get what I have access to today, I don't want my life to go backwards because politicians decided disabilities cost too much. I was improving, a great deal, thanks to the ndis. My life was beginning to function with the right supports. I don't know where I would be without that stuff.

Oh dear. That’s a bit unreasonable to get those reports by the weekend. How much notice did they give? I can’t help you and provide those reports but I can tell you I feel your pain.

Hope it works out for you @The-red-centaur

Re: Ndis changes.

Sounds like the beaurocracy is really raking you over the coals, @The-red-centaur . I've had a taste of that recently, myself.

Late last year, Lived Experiance Australia put out a newsletter that mentioned that their still in ongoing talks with the government about the aftermath of Robodebt, and the lessons to be learned from it.

Your problem sounds to be very much in the same vein: the government harassing you for paperwork to prove your innosence, on an unreasonable timeframe.

I doubt they can offer you any assistance with your immediate crisis, @The-red-centaur , but if you talk to Lived Experiance Australia about this (some time down the line when you've got some free time, of course), at the very least they may be able to take the government to task about this sort of behavior, to work towards a future where nobody is subjected to this sort of thing again.

Hi @The-red-centaur

This kind of government bureaucracy makes me so angry. Centrelink and the NDIS have a duty of care to support people, many of whom are among the most vulnerable in Australia.

@chibam is absolutely right, this is all too reminiscent of Robodebt. I just finished reading Mean Streak by journalist Rick Morton, who covered the Royal Commission into Robodebt, and I was shocked by the sheer callousness of the government and public servants toward people on JobSeeker. They make the process so difficult that it feels deliberate, as if they’re hoping people will simply give up.

Are they open to giving you an extension? Surely, they have a duty of care to support you. When people can't afford their utility bills, companies are required to offer hardship assistance, shouldn't the same apply here by giving you an extension?

If they refuse, you might consider mentioning that you'll reach out to your local member of parliament. I hope you find someone reasonable and sympathetic. Best of luck.

I don't know what to do. Ndia want me to move again next week. My finding has massively been cut. I'm tired. I don't want to deal with this shit anymore.

@The-red-centaur i can hear how painfully tiring this has been for you, i can't help but feel frustrated that this happened to you! is there a timeline in which you have to move out by? is there anyone you can chat to about this to see if there's other options?
