Emotional Abuse

TW: Emotional Abuse

Content/trigger warning
I think I over heard my mother telling my stepdad that I (me) should *** myself. I was in the kitchen making dinner and I'm not sure if I heard it right, but they were having a discussion about me. (I know that because they weren't as quiet as they thought they were). She said to him that i am getting worse and that she doesn't want me living here anymore.

My mother and I have never gotten along. Yeah we are civil but she has been emotionally and physically abusive to me. And because of that I have really intense anxiety and ptsd. So I am finding it hard to move out (trauma bond too).

I'm kind of wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and if anyone can can give advice.

Re: Emotional Abuse

@Sunflower5 I am so sorry to hear what has happened.

I've been in a similar position myself with my mother telling me that 'I'm a mistake and that I shouldn't have been born', I had that throughout my life as a child. Fast forward many years later and after constant abuse I made several attempts to take my own life, when she found out her response was 'What a shame you failed, maybe try harder next time'.

I thought i would never be able to get away from that situation as I was scared but also had that bond (trauma). I did eventually get the courage to walk away and it was good to get away from her and the behaviour towards me.

I know there is services that can help with family situations, wondering if that's something you could look into? Also going to a gp and getting some referrals to get some therapy/support for yourself could be another option for you.

You are not alone and we are here to support you however we can.

Re: Emotional Abuse

hi @Sunflower5
that would have been upsetting to hear. its hard when our parents arent supportive.
i had a trauma bond too but after many years ive managed to break the ties a little, move out and have minimal ties with those i was bonded to.
do you have any psychological support like a psychologist or counsellor?
do you have any friends that you could talk to?
despite it being hard, do you think you could reach out to public housing to ask for you to be put on a waitlist for your own home?
