Artistic/Bipolar crisis
The thoughts i find are related to real anxieties i have.
I have made a name for myself as a new media artist, and that is all ive done since my early 20s, around the same time my illness appeared, though i was only diagnosed at around 27. I am currently unemployed and living with my elderly father, between shows i am either in a depressed or manic state.
I am at another crisis point. I feel that i no longer enjoy my artistic endeavours and that it doesnt help my mental health. Im not sure if its my depressed state but It seems to cause me alot of stress. Sometimes i think it could be a cause. The thought of producing a show 6months from now feels like an agonising sentence. Combined with the bipolar, i have failed at achieving things like getting my licence, getting work, saving money and looking after my mental health. I realise i should let go of something if it isnt working, but i guess i am trying to salvage and protect what i have built up over the last 10 years. If i walked away from it i will feel like a huge failure.
I have no other skills or training in anything else, so i am scared to apply for work, havnt been employed for about 5years. I have fears of not ever being able to make enough money to live independantly.
My questions are:
Should i leave the art career if it is currently causing anxiety?
What are my options for employment if i am starting from nothing?
I will be truly grateful for any words of advice.
