Welcome and getting started

Hi new on here 🙏

Hi new on here 🙏

Hi there

I am new here. I’ve been going through a bad depressive state for about 6 months also have bad anxiety. The last 6 weeks have been bad. I also have diagnosed ADD and am on medication for this. I finally got the guts to start an antidepressant this morning I have always worried about the side effects. I also have adrenal insufficiency caused by immunotherapy stage 4 melanoma all clear. 🙏 my body doesn’t produce cortisol the stress hormone so this is replaced by steroids 3 times a day for the rest of my life. Or until I hack my body and cure myself which will be my legacy to medicine, as the specialists say it’s permanent. I’m struggling to get out of bed eat and shower at the moment. I don’t want to leave my unit, I feel frozen in fear and anxiety and only do when I have to eg food medicine etc I have to move in 3 weeks and am finding it so hard to make a start with packing. I’m moving in with my daughter who is a single mother and my 3 grand children. I feel like I burden to my family by this situation so I really don’t have that support as I hide it from them well. I’ve lived alone for the past 10 years and do self isolate so will be good to have company. But I worry it might be too much. I don’t want to die but I don’t want to live this life the way I’m feeling. ❤️

Hey @Daisy52 ,

Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing some challenges at the moment.

With medication, there are so many different kinds out there. If one doesn't work for you, there may be others that are more suitable.

Have you spoken to your dr about these side effects? I can hear how concerned you are with some of the side effects.

It may take the trial and effort of a few meds. Personally, I tried at least 6 different meds before I got to the one that worked for me.

Do you have private health insurance? Would you consider an inpatient stay to 'get your meds sorted'?

Hi yes I would consider that I have private insurance but it’s on a tier that’s restricted so I’m not sure how much out of pocket costs are.

Hi Daisy.

I too suffer from MDD and anxiety so I do understand to a certain extent how you're feeling.

I had a bad bought of mental illness due to work related issues in my 20s and also in my mid 40s after a series of traumatic events. That was 4 years ago and things are better but I felt like you. I understand. I couldn't get out of bed or shower. I didn't think things would be this way forever but bit by bit, I slowly, step by step, could see some improvements as time went by. Thanks to friends, family, a great psychiatrist and getting on the right medication I improved.

Moving in with your daughter and starting anti depressants sounds like two great steps forward. I found that isolation and lonliness were entwined with my depression. Having company helped me a lot. I'm really hoping that this helps you too and with time, the antidepressants.

It's hard, really hard but you are worth it and you can get through this.

Regards, Archer7612

It’s comforting to know I’m not alone and there are people like your self who have made progress and are doing better. You are truly an inspiration, it gives me hope I’ll make it through. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story. It’s hard sometimes to ask for help. I am hoping the medication starts to work soon. I guess it works differently for everyone. Little steps ❤️

Hi Daisy 👋

Yes, medication does affect different people differently. It took a while for my doctors to get me onto the right medication for me. Quite a few seperate hospital visits and different psychiatrists. Got there in the end.

Do you have some support in place to help you, a good doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health team as well as supportive friends and family? It all helps.
