Moving through the issues..

Moving through the issues..

I know that I do have my issues, and some have been around longer than others. Unfortunately, for me the biggest issue hasn't always been fully addressed, and it has created a monster.

That 'other person' isn't as kind caring and considerate as I was raised to be. That person is manipulative and can be rather mean and nasty. I certainly don't like that person (and I honestly don't know when he's about because he is sneaky and hides in the shadows).

This side of me is certainly a 'snake in the grass' and his character and demeanor are similar to mine apart from the fact that he is far more selfish and self-centered that I have ever been. I am thinking this side of me is a trauma response because he really only seems to surface when things are going badly.

He appeared about 18 months ago when I had some issues with a medication, and I noticed that he disappeared after that medication was removed from my physical being. Recently the loss of my mother was a massive mental strain which again saw him come to the surface. I did some things that I am not proud of, and I hurt a good friend because of his selfishness and the way his thinking is.

I really want to exorcise this guy from my being because he is just a really bad person in my own opinion. He is actually everything I hate in people (and I become that person sometimes, so I end up hating myself because of it). I would rather be the kind and caring person all my friends know and care about.

Don't know a lot about removing the bad part. But thought it might help to write down all the things this bad part stands for. Get a good picture or full picture. Try to do it when your feeling ok. Just sit and write some questions U would like to ask the bad part. Try positive and negative question types. I'm sure with time a better understanding will come about. That will help you soothe the bad part. I'm hoping this helps. @Arbie_wun

@Arbie_wun i don't have much advice on what you are going through. But I just wanted to acknowledge that it's such a strength that you recognise this in yourself and that it's not how you want to be. From what I've seen on here you are a very kind and caring person who is always willing to offer support to others when they need it.

I think the best thing would be to work with a counsellor or psychologist to help you get rid of that person that you don't like or want to be.

But honestly keep being the you I've seen on here cos that person is amazing 😊.

@Former-Memberthank you my friend, this is the normal me and that other one is certainly unpleasant and manipulative.

I know that my history and past have created him, and I have started therapy to assist me in exorcising that demon!

Re: Moving through the issues..

@Just thanks, I have started some therapy and have been working on strategies to remove the evil and inconsiderate side from my existence. I guess it could be like mental surgery because I only want to take out the bad and leave all the good!

@Arbie_wun good on you for starting therapy to get rid of that part of you.

You should be proud of yourself for working hard to be the best person you can be. I'm proud of you 🙂

@Former-Member and I have you to thank for helping me through some of the bad days whilst awaiting the commencement of my therapy. It's been actually really good to help someone and share their battles as well.

@Arbie_wun it's been an absolute pleasure to chat with you and help you through the hard times. And you have certainly helped me through some of my darkest times, so thankyou 😊.

Re: Moving through the issues..

@Arbie_wun please be fair on yourself. Who ever told U that U had evil is wrong. I'm not a religious person but God said we are made in his image. All children are kind and loving until someone shows them differently. Who was this for you, who talked about evil to U? Why do you use the word evil? Explore your past and change your views of yourself. You will be what you say you are. So talk happy, helpful things about yourself. Others here have been doing this exact thing. Telling how helpful and good you are. You are allowed to help yourself. So help yourself. I send this with the deepest of well wishes. I hope I haven't got it wrong and upset you. That was never my intention.

Re: Moving through the issues..

I see it from both sides @Just @Arbie_wun @Former-Member . In a way, I feel we all have to confront our own 'demons' at some point or another. I think it is a chance to grow and a chance to re-evaluate things.

I also feel that reframing to see things in a different perspective can also be super helpful.

I wonder if it is about striking a balance between the two?

I've met serious toxic positivity in the past and it was just so..... ewwwww...

Thoughts?
