Emotional Cheating and Self-Harm

Emotional Cheating and Self-Harm

Hello. So a couple of days ago, I was caught emotionally cheating on my wife. I was messaging a girl and being sexual and flirtatious with her via messages. This isn't the first time either.

My wife went through my phone while I was sleeping and woke me up for us to have a massive argument. The night kind of ended with me trying to self-harm. Not to flee from the issue but so that she could move on and be happy with someone else.

The reason for me posting this is help and advice so I don't fall back into the same patterns of emotional cheating when my wife and I have a massive argument.

Thanks everyone for listening

Hey @Nate89 firstly, welcome to the forums!

I'm really sorry to hear how much of toll this has taken on you and your relationship. Relationships can be tricky to navigate and the important thing is you're taking accountability and working towards breaking those patterns.

Talking about those feelings and patterns would perhaps help you better understand why its happened and how to overcome them - is there someone you can talk to about it? perhaps a relationship therapist? There's also Relationships Australia that can provide some free support if that's something you'd like to look into?

In terms of steps you can take now, perhaps discussing with your wife what you can do to earn her trust back?
