Family violence intervention order
I’m seeking some advice on what happens when you apply for a family violence intervention order — specifically, what behaviour counts as threatening enough and likely enough to reoccur for an order to be made, and what happens if the person the order’s made against breaches it?
Six weeks after our breakup my former partner is continually contacting me, despite our no-contact agreement, and making me feel distressed and horrible. I don’t fear for my physical safety and we don’t have children together. I want something stronger than my words to try and keep him away, but I fear my case right now isn’t strong enough for an intervention order to succeed — and even if it did, it’d have terms his current behaviour would breach, and I fear that would set off a cascade of events that would turn him even more unpredictable and unstable. I don’t want him to harass me, but his life blowing up would make things worse.
Has anyone had a similar experience that could help me understands what behaviour stands up an order, and what happens if one’s breached? Appreciate any insights.
