Re: Life and trauma

@Former-Member I must admit, i would struggle a lot more without a cat or dog. They just bring me a lot of peace. You can't have dogs where you are, or you just don't feel up to it??

Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 ok so I had one that had to be put down in March this year at 3 years old due to Renal dysplasia, she was my assistance dog. Then I tried again but just over a month ago I had to hand her back to the breeder as things weren't working out. I've had dogs for the past 20 years and now I've got nothing. I've had to put 4 dogs down in the past 5 years, 3 due to old age.

@Former-Member That is the thing about pets that is so hard! Its so hard when we lose them. Some people dont get it, but its losing family.

Losing one so young is especially hard to take.

Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 it's definitely like losing family and takes a part of you away everytime. Losing my one at 3 years old really had a massive impact, she was my world and really saved my life when I was going through a very traumatic event. She was the only one that was there for me during that time and was trained to interrupt my behaviours so I couldn't hurt myself. I'm hoping i can get another dog but financially it's not an option but my doctor is trying to go down the path of getting an assistance dog for me. It's just a long and very draining process so he is watching me very closely while trying to do it.

Re: Life and trauma

@Former-Member Yeah, losing her so young must have been so incredibly devastating! It seems you have a good doctor though who is helping you. Hopefully you can get a new furry friend soon.

@MJG017 you have no idea how devastating it was and still is. But I really hope i can get another furry friend soon. Ok now what else can we talk about? Unless you need to go to sleep which is ok, I understand.
