Re: Life and trauma

Hello @Shaz51

Sorry I’m late to login and missed the chatting @Former-Member @Jynx @tyme @MJG017

I was at volunteering today which is always a pretty big day for me. I’m hoping it gets easier as I get used to it, I’m still very new to it.
Had a bit of a weird flashback earlier this evening, but I think I learnt something from it, so overall it might have been a good learning experience, despite being traumatic (not terrible though).

I’m sorry to hear about your grandson @Shaz51, I hope he makes a good and quick recovery.

I’m glad to see you hear @Former-Memberand hope you have a restful night.

I haven’t seen you for a couple of days I think @MJG017, I hope you are ok

Maybe everyone is a bit tired tonight @Jynx and needs a restful night.

I need to be up early for sport training, secretly I’d rather sleep in though🤣

Re: Life and trauma

@Till23 not much rest happening here at the moment. Sorry to hear about your flashback, they are so traumatic but I guess if you learnt something from it that's a small positive. Sounds like the volunteering takes a bit out of you but hopefully that will change as you do it more.

Re: Life and trauma

I’m sorry you’re not getting much rest even though you are tired @Former-Member are your distraction methods not working tonight, or not well enough?

I volunteer at a drop in centre so it’s face to face dealing with a lot of similar problems to on the forums; MH, housing insecurity, food insecurity, low financial resources, stigma etc etc so it’s quite a big day, plus you’re on your feet for most of it.

Re: Life and trauma

@Till23 really annoyed at a certain person that's done some damage with a specific situation. It's left me feeling really frustrated and worked up. Definitely not myself at the moment so normal distractions aren't cutting it.

That sounds rewarding but also very full on and I imagine it would be quite draining.

Re: Life and trauma

Oh @Former-Member that sounds like an uncomfortable situation

Frustration is a hard one to dispel easily I think and I find I get worked up a bit when frustrated.

My go to strategy for frustration is to get my HR up by doing some exercise, if I can. It’s not always possible if you’re at work or out somewhere.

I think getting your heart rate up for a physiological reason, helps overcome the increased heart rate of frustration and that seems to calm you down.

If I’m at home I might do some pushups, sit-ups and squats plus or instead running on the spot.

Re: Life and trauma

@Till23 unfortunately given my situation at the moment that's not an option.

Just sitting with everything is completely overwhelming me. I spent 4 hours waiting in a chat to talk to someone only to get disconnected as soon as a peer support worker joined the chat and unfortunately they are now closed for the night.

I'm trying to ride things out but being this worked up is taking a toll.

Re: Life and trauma

Oh you can’t do some sit-ups or pushups I’m sorry to hear that @Former-Member

I’ve had that happen before or where you get to be the next person on the phone and something happens and you’re cut off. That is frustrating.

I think beyond blue and 1800 Respect both have 24/7 phone and webchat

Yeah, I reckon being tired and worked up is a terrible combination

Re: Life and trauma

I’m sorry I’m going to have to go to sleep @Former-Member as I’m very tired and have to get up in a few hours

I hope you are able to get some rest tonight and I’ll look forward to chatting with you tomorrow

Re: Life and trauma

@Till23 not at the moment i can't and won't be able to for a while at least until my body recovers.

It's so frustrating when you get cut off.

I'm not using any of the crisis lines at the moment but I know they are there if I need them.

I only got an hours sleep last night, did manage to get a couple of hours during the day but even though I'm exhausted now I just can't sleep.
