Talking through trauma and PTSD

Flash backs

Flash backs

Hi everyone..I’m new here.. I’ve been struggling with anxiety, depression and ptsd for years now..in February my dad passed away..his passing has really affected me a lot. He was the only family I had that cared for me.. all my other family abandoned me after he passed. I feel alone. My dad passed away in hospital, I’ve been having flash backs of him laying in hospital (as I saw him after he passed). I noticed the flashbacks get worse when it gets closer to special occasions like (christmas). Does anyone know some strategies that can help please? Thank you

Re: Flash backs

hey @Chardonnay welcome to the forums!!

i'm so sorry to hear about your loss, i can't imagine how hard it must be to lose a parent you were close to. it sounds like the passing was quite a traumatic event for you. unfortunately i don't have a lot of experience with flashbacks, but i did find this article with some strategies that you can check out: How to Cope with Flashbacks. there's also Griefline, i haven't used their services myself but they can talk to you further about those thoughts and feelings.

i'm sure other community members will be able to provide you some strategies soon too. it's lovely to have you here, and know that we're here for you 💙

Hi @Chardonnay,

Welcome to the Forum, and thank you for sharing.

I'm very sorry for your loss and that you're going through such a difficult time right now. Christmas is such a challenging time… especially when we are feeling the loss of a loved one and are dealing with our own mental health concerns.

The resource and support service that @rav3n has shared look like they could be really helpful — I've only heard good things about Griefline.

And I second that, we're here for you whenever you feel the need to reach out. Hope to hear from you soon.

Take care.

Re: Flash backs

That's a great way to put it, @Chardonnay — taking it one day at a time.

How are you going this week?

I have found some really good resources that I thought I would share for both yourself and for anyone else that's interested:

There is also this thread (Let's Discuss: Coping with End Of Year Challenges) started by the lovely @tyme, if you feel the need to connect with others.

I hope that we hear from you soon.

Thanks for sharing @defaultusername !

How are you going @defaultusername ? I guess we are hearing to the end of the year. Can be a bit hectic.

Re: Flash backs

Not a problem at all @tyme! Great idea to make that thread.

I'm going well thank you very much for asking — It has been a bit hectic, but I'm not very big on Christmas, so that helps ease the pressure a bit.

How are you going?

Re: Flash backs

Join the club @defaultusername . I really used to detest this time of year. It became a very anxious time for me. Nowadays, I've learnt to cope better though.

I just want you to know you are not alone in feeling this way about this time of year.

I think what's helpful is for me to have things planned and in place so that there is at least a bit of structure. This includes building in rest time.
