Something’s not right

Isolated and feeling stuck

Isolated and feeling stuck

Hi Everyone,

My mental health has been going further and further down. I live in a town that has limited education, training and job opportunities. I am 4 hours from the nearest capital city and I’m stuck here for my child and his father - my now ex husband. I am trying to better myself for not only my future, but that of my child. I have to live in a dysfunctional house with my ex husband as houses and rent has tripled since Covid and everyone moving here. I work full time in a loveless job - but hey - it’s a job. I can’t afford or get a rental as too many people and not enough houses.
I want to study and get a better job to be able to afford a house on my own and be independent for my son and I. It’s feeling impossible with the limited resources this town offers. I can’t study online as what I want to do is medical based and face-to-face. I was accepted into uni, but how am I meant to work fulltime and study fulltime 4 hours away 😵‍💫 I have the brain, drive and tenacity, just not the means.

Sorry for the vent, just feel stuck and isolated here. No friends and no family either - moved here for my ex husband’s job and his family .
If I didn’t have my son, I would have moved away and lived in a van at this point, but not viable with a young child.

I guess I have to wait until my son is older and reassess my situation.

Just feeling so lonely, isolated and lost.

Thanks for reading.

Hi @ButterflyChick I just wanted to pop by and welcome you to the forums.

I'm sorry to hear that you're in such a challenging situation that's causing you to feel stuck. I'm sure you've likely already looked into it, but are there any scholarships or financial aid that you may be eligible for to allow you to reduce some of your working hours while you study?

I hope that connecting here helps you to feel a little less lonely, we're glad to have you as part of the forums

Re: Isolated and feeling stuck

I’m also living in a disfunctional household. My ex and I have broken up about a month ago and I don’t have income to afford rent either.. we “own /mortage “ the house but she’s so vile I can’t live here..

I have a lock on my door,

a go bag in case I have to leave in a hurry

places to escape to.

isolation seems to be a big thing with this one .. the house is not a safe or pleasant space so I try and get out , get into nature go meet people do free things I need to talk to or be around folks who don’t hate me and aren’t trying to hurt or manipulate me..

what do you do to get out of the house with your child ?
