Isolation
Does anyone here feel lonely? I feel like I used to have friends for support, we've moved on to a different stage of life now. Colleagues are mean and don't feel like going out. How do I cope?

Yes, me 😞 It is tough. And the fact of the matter is, I am not coping. I had a breakdown at work last week due to this very issue. My colleagues are passively mean and isolating - they leave me out of invitations, only for me to see them all get together and be loud and obnoxious.

Hi @edrut, @Alonely. I'm sorry you both have to deal with coworkers like that. Considering how much time is spent in the workplace, it can have a huge impact on life outside of work... but i'm sure i'm just pointing out the obvious to you both. It just really sucks to be in that position, and just shows a level of insensitivity and indifference to people around them that borders on cruelty.
I guess the only advice I can give in relation to this is that to try and keep in mind that it just is a poor reflection on them and not either of you. Don't let them make you feel like it is about you. If they had any empathy or understanding they would see you were struggling and try to make you feel more involved and feel like you were fitting in. I know it doesn't really resolve anything, but it might at least minimize the effects on you mentally.
For me in dealing with my own loneliness and isolation, i've tried to work on finding people who are supportive and understand me better. I basically started on online forums like this and that was a great place to start for me. Getting to know people who understood what i was dealing with and getting to know them while supporting them, getting support back from them has been a massive change for me and has really helped me a lot to feel more connected and less isolated. Slowly, it has started to affect areas of my life in the real world rather than just online and has helped me find those connections there was well.
So don't let these people make you feel like it has to be this way. You are too good for them, not the other way around. Use that knowledge to find people who will be appreciative of you friendship.

Hey @edrut
I do get lonely sometimes. Personally, I have done a few things to help ease the isolation. Mainly join groups on the app Meetup. I also joined a dog group from Facebook. And I play a game where I voice chat with people. I know it's not easy meeting people to connect to, but would you feel comfortable looking for a group that matches your interests to help ease the isolation?

Does anyone else here struggle particularly with being physically alone? I’m home with a bad cold and I’ve had to cancel things this week.
logically I know that being unwell is a part of life but the last few years I have really struggled when dealing with being on my own.
which is exactly what happens when one is sick.
just wondering if anyone else has this experience and how do you cope?

@lostNcluelessThat's a tough one! I tend to find things to do to take my mind off the loneliness. But obviously that's a bit difficult if you're sick and not up to doing much. Maybe just reading or watching some TV. I've never really found a way around it, other than distracting myself. These days, I probably just come on here and read posts and reply where I can.

@Alonely Thank you for that, i'm glad to hear you felt a little boosted, especially after the breakdown. I hope you continue to feel better and feel a little less alone.
