Something’s not right

The anticipated letter

The anticipated letter

14 weeks of hospital, I no longer have the energy to explain the inadequacies but I am even surprised how i survived. 7 weeks out and I still am unsupported fighting and advocating daily for what wasn't done in hospital. I have realised there is no point trying to explain as it's not anyone else problem and I am not alone in this dishevelled broken system. I wished for acknowledgment, apology or any resolve. Sadly none and just a reminder that the small people don't get heard.

I am here trying to figure out how I find my closure and move forward. Anyway first thing I did was my new outlet and write.

The letter arrived

The letter, one I have awaited for, spent time meticulously trying to prepare to give the best opportunity for myself to be heard

It arrived today and I think sadly I already knew its outcome would not be positive but actually seeing it, I go back to how I let them define my worth

It was the hardest battle I have ever fought and I have never felt so misunderstood or poorly treated

The demons are haunting, the injustice big but I know that I will deteriorate rapidly if I let myself stay where they left me seated

So I have to rise above the hurt, the suffering, potentially another person who has slipped through the cracks

And that's why I'm so disappointed cos I know this is not an isolated incident, the system has failed many and has not acknowledged their lacks

I am not sure how to release such a weighted experience, I know it will be a process and I need to allow it the space and time

I will try to remember they don't dictate my worth and they devalued my sense of self, I can choose to incline to myself and be kind

Re: The anticipated letter

oh @Former-Member i'm so sorry you've had to deal with all this. fighting a broken system and standing up for what you believe is such amazing work, but with it, comes the energy draining part.

it really sucks that this letter was disappointing to say the least, but i'm so proud of you for refusing to let it define you. no person, no system and definitely no letter has the power to dictate your worth and value. the way you're choosing to fight the dismissive treatment in itself is proof of your strength.

being invalidated, undervalued, unseen - these are all so painfully draining, so please do look after yourself. treat yourself with kindness, spend time around those who add to your vibrant energy, do things that bring you joy no matter how big or small. celebrate those little beauties of life to recharge your battery. we are here beside you, and i know you've faced a series of downs, but there will be ups. and we're here with you through it all. it's okay to take a lil break to regain some of that energy 💗

Re: The anticipated letter

Hi @Former-Member. I'm sorry for what you have been through. The system is indeed just so broken and so many people fall through the rather large gaping holes in it. It shows so much strength and courage to decide to not let it dictate how you value yourself anymore. It's done enough damage so not letting it do any more, other than the pain it had already caused shows incredible strength on your part.

Maybe you can find some healing from it in trying to help others navigate and deal with their own pain from their own experiences with the system. For now though, probably just taking some time for yourself and your own well being is probably the right way forward at the moment.

Re: The anticipated letter

Thank you @MJG017 @rav3n

I let myself have my moment yesterday slept, and woke up here and began to find my own path of closure. It won't be overnight but we will get there. Thank you for your words of support.

It is hard when closure is not achieved and understanding is not received, however I have found that if I waited for it I would let my life be idle

And I know that for me that would be redundant because if I choose to remain stagnant and sit in the despair I am caught in a downward spiral

Somehow I have to find my own way to leave the judgements, and misconceptions behind and choose that my own mind is the one that gets to define

To define who I am and how I move forward regardless of occurrences and how others perceive, I can only be responsible ultimately for how I choose to align

Therefore I accept that my resolve or being set free in my individuality is not an external source, it is something I have to strive for inside of me

I have made my choice and others do not get the power to control my value or sense of self, I will grow above the chaos because I choose to protect my peace

So to close the door and allow the possibilities of the future to be open to whatever is better in this life, I am intentional to not allow myself to derail

Maybe closure is not final, maybe it is not confined by the responsiveness of others because if it was it's only human that we would be set to fail

oh and yes this is from my bed, if you are going to be confined to a bed most the time you make the most of it right?

Re: The anticipated letter

Hi @Former-Member Yes, I know that frustration of not getting closure. I can eat away at us, but you're doing the right thing in refusing to allow that and doing what is best for you own well being. It's the one thing we can (mostly) control. You're demonstrating a lot of key elements of empowerment, like growth, strength, resilience, and self awareness. So well done, and continue to be proud of yourself.

I do my best thinking in bed as well.
