Re: One Day at a time here

Haha @Shaz51 really Mr Shaz… cos I know he was a gardener. You have a bit of space, so I guess he is busy at home.

@Shaz51 hearing you about the quality of involvement online. I mostly use the support button, so when it doesn’t work, it impacts how I relate on the forums. I tag a little bit, and mostly thought it was a positive, warm inclusive thing to do, and personally appreciate being tagged myself. I especially appreciate people responding with care, on my Fragile thread. It has been a good long association we have had.

You are dealing with a lot medically, so you need to take care of yourself too. Some of us seem to be “wired “ as carers. Its core to how we manage.

This morning, I heard difficult stories, but had good fellowship at church. People are struggling with many things. We just try to do our best.

Re: One Day at a time here

I thought it was just my phone the "support" button wasn't working for @Appleblossom !! Its so weirdly intermittent??

I've only been here a couple of days, so I have no idea what "normal" is yet.

@Appleblossom @Shaz51 I do see many of the same users providing the support, rather than a bigger pool of people giving each other support. I know this can be a result of people being in a place where they arent currently able to give support, and for those who arent 'wired' to want to care for others then maybe they dont think to access to provide support when they are well? Not saying this as a judgement, just how my brain is wondering and processing what I'm seeing he

I posted 2-3 days ago when I joined, but all I've received is a Mod-acknowledgement and no peer perspectives. I know this could be because its a hard topic/issue and limited people with ability to support, or perhaps that it doesn't appear in 'recent posts'/discussions because of the Hub its posted in? I've no idea. But I'm being patient. And in the mean time trying to get to know some of you in social channels and give some of my support or perspectives on topics where I feel I can in the mean time.

Re: One Day at a time here

@Shaz51 you have put in such consistent support for many over the years. I also know the feelings of being spread a bit thin at times, and also the real joy when connection is deep and heartfelt.

@AlwaysMyself you are probably doing the best thing. Being real, reflective and joining in socially, and being patient.

tbh the forum really helped me find my social side. Just gave me little moments of being seen, or make small talk, no matter how low I was feeling. A part of me didn’t like it when there was only small talk, so I avoided it, and maybe was too serious. It can be good to mix it up, but YES, there are many people who aren’t able to join in or do lots of supporting, for a host of reasons.

in the “old days “ there were not so many mods and peer workers, and the forums did evolve organically. Perhaps some people prefer… “ staff support “ rather than from the general community, but I prefer, the variety of people and ways to connect, and people being real, sharing real concerns. Good to have you on board.

Re: One Day at a time here

Agree @Appleblossom . I value both the staff-support and the other user support. 🙂 both give valid and good inputs.

Im generally less interested in "small talk" because i get it elsewhere. But I also value it as a way to get to know and connect with people and build a safe trusting environment. I do like learning about people though, so for me learning about others' interests, hobbies, pets etc isn't "small talk". 🙂 hopefully people won't mind me asking social questions and realise its part of just taking an interest in people for who they are. 🙂

And having social spaces can serve as a really good distraction when I'm alone and need something to avoid other thoughts for a day/night. 🙂

@Appleblossom @AlwaysMyself

@Shaz51 I agree we do try to just do our best. That is all any of us can do.

How is everyone doing today? I know we’ve all had problems and challenges and sometimes these can last longer than a a day or two.

Re: One Day at a time here

@Shaz51 Oh I didn’t realise visiting your MIL and SIL wasn’t an uplifting thing. I know you were saying the other day you went to see them but I didn’t realise it isn't a positive visit. I hope you are feeling better after that as you are going through difficult stuff and being around loving and caring people is important.

Yes I agree we can only do our best. Sometimes others expect more but that isn’t fair.
