Something’s not right

Can't keep up with the demands of life and everything is falling apart

Can't keep up with the demands of life and everything is falling apart

I just can't do it. The list of things I need to do - important things - just keeps growing and growing. I can't keep on top of it, try as I might. This means things fall apart and get worse. This includes:

* Paying new bills

* Trying to sort out overdue bills

* Attending doctors appointments

* Picking up medications

* Taking the car in to get fixed

* Doing my tax

* Going to therapist appointments

* Going to psychiatrist appointments

* Grocery shopping

* Going to the post office

I've been trying to get these things done for over a year now and simply can't. Sure, I might get one or two done like paying a bill, but when I knock one things off the list another four pop up to take it's place.

I'm falling apart - literally. Getting sick all the time because I can't get to the shops to buy groceries to eat properly.

Everyday is go to work, work all day, collapse when I get home.

I can't do it anymore. I need help, but there's no one to help.

@Jlol I'm really sorry you're struggling. This is just an idea, but have you thought of hiring a community carer/social worker/nurse to help you with the list of 'to dos'? Or maybe going on Airtasker to find someone with PA experience?

Hi @Jlol, I think when its so overwhelming and at breaking point like it clearly seems to be for you right now, the main thing is to prioritize the most critical tasks needed to just survive. So the grocery shopping so that you can eat properly. Is delivery and option to help you out timewise. You could have a set order, tweak it as necessary and just have it delivered. As much as I don't like them myself, maybe some of those frozen meals in the freezer so you at least have something there for a quick and easy meal.

If you keep trying to completely all the tasks you'll probably just continue to get more and more overwhelmed. So if you can't get some help with managing some of these tasks, using @Cleo2's suggestion or getting someone else to help you out, then the only other option is to break it up into more manageable chunks.

Also try to keep in mind, that none of us ever gets these lists down to nothing. There's always stuff that needs doing but just try to focus on the most important ones and just getting done what you can. So maybe missing an appointment would be more beneficial for you if you spent that time getting the car fixed or doing your tax.

Could you get a MH day off from work to give you some time at getting some of these tasks out of the way. Is even taking some leave an option? And just keep trying to see your progress as the tasks you've done, rather than what there is left to do. Maybe that will help to make things feel a little less overwhelming.
