Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Ah yes, the dreaded wait to hear back. Similar thing happening here for me today. I don't have any hope either, about anything, not that I ever have, so I know what that's like. Try to take care @CheerBear

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks @Former-Member. It's a tough place to be and I'm sorry you feel it too.

Today during a brain smashing assessment the support coordinator asked me about my strengths. Determination was in my answer. I would like to think that what I lack in hope I can maybe make up for in that.

Hope you're as OK as you can be after a similar thing happened for you today.

Well this is more than I can say for myself, so you did good in my opinion @CheerBear

I want to write something about how I could be wrong but I'm thinking it has taken you quite some determination to get through all you have @Former-Member. I feel like that would miss the point that perhaps that determination/fight is pretty exhausted for you at the moment, so I'm reluctant to go there.

Hearing you though and hoping it helps a bit to have a place to share your frustration and know you're not alone in feeling that it really does suck sometimes.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Determination is equal to the forced survival I endured and still endure in my brain, so is existing outright because none were or are my choice. But thank you, I appreciate that you actually acknowledge what I've been through, still am going through and the impact instead of just assuming I'm some poster child for surviving abuse and trauma like most people have.

I think I meant to say "I'm not able to identify anything besides sh*t about myself because of my negative self-concept".

That sounds like a truly awful place to be @Former-Member. For what it is worth I am (we here are) listening to and hearing you.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

It is, but its the only place I've ever been in. So I'm used to it, and its hard to care when it can't be changed. Truly. GP thought NDIS would help, but she thought the same about everything else too. Its her job to have hope. Why, I don't know, because there's no reason to. This was literally last resort, I've got nothing now.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Venting here is totally ok @CheerBear that's partly why I started this thread in the first place. I've done more than my share of it too over the exactly 2 years since I first applied.

@Former-Member I think you said you have a disability advocate - have you told her about all the problems you've had with NDIS? Have you asked your GP for more help with it?

The other thing this thread helps with is reading back what's been happening - sometimes I'd get so frustrated and demoralised that I couldn't remember things like chunks of conversations had on the topic and it really helped to have journaled it here.

Best wishes to you both.

Yes, I have and they can't help, they just listen @eth

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

I spoke with the LAC who advised me that putting in a request for a plan review was a bad idea as I'm likely to lose funding. I said I didn't care as the funding I have is almost completely useless being that it is in the wrong areas. She told me that as I'm self managed I can use my core funding (where most of my funds are tied) for capacity building as long as it goes toward my goals. (Wondering if this is something you've heard before @eth because it definitely isn't my understanding?) This is the very opposite to what the support coordinator has told me and the first I've heard of this.

I asked if that included/meant I had funding for a mental health worker and she said definitely. I have been all but screaming for support with a qualified and experienced MH worker since I stopped working with mine when I became an NDIS participant. A mental health worker is an essential part of my 'team'. All I've heard until now is that I don't have the funding for one, but according to the LAC I could have been engaging with one since my plan started. The LAC gave me details of another support coordination organisation and this afternoon I had an awesome chat with them about getting some support that might actually help me.

Because I don't trust anyone and this was the first I'd heard about using funding between categories, I called the NDIA to double check that what the LAC said was right so I knew for sure what I could do before going through the process of working with a new support coordinator. I was told that it would be fraudulent to do what I'd been advised by the LAC to do and if I was audited I could be removed as a participant of the scheme.

I'm done and I give up now.
